Hi, all. My recently acquired '72 C10 doesn't have the original jack kit (how many do?), and I would like to knwo whare is the best palce to buy a jack. My truck has original suspension, not lifted or modified in any way.

My question is, is a bottle jack the best solution to replace the original jack kit, for lifting both the front and back? If so, what is the max lift height I need if I lift from the recommended lift points (such as lower A frame support in front, if I recall correctly)?

the clearance under the aa frames with a flat is less than 6inches the same thing with trailing arms or the axel tube so a bottle jack would need to be used on the frame rails which are alot higher than most bottle jacks//what i always carried was the cheapo $20 floor jacks stored in back of the seat// those are chancy at best but in an emergancy situation can usually get the wheel off the ground to change , always carry a can or two of instaflat stuff

I have a bottle jack. I lift under the trailing arm or a-arm, it only has to go up a couple inches.

I have a 1.5 ton floor jack I carry. It has it's own little case to keep it under control. When the 70 becomes road worthy I'll move my floor mounted box with the tools and jack to it. I also carry a small piece of wood to sit the jack on.

I currently keep in the 70 the bottle jack that came with my 2002. They are close to the same size as the original and the jack rods store nicely in a case. You might find one in a junkyard on a trashed out truck. The bottle jacks from the newer (2003 & up) Dodges and GM trucks are almost identical, so you can widen your possibilities on finding one that way.

Bottle jack for me as well. That's what I kept in my 67' thru the 80's and now I keep it in my 68', along with a 12 " 2x4 for soft ground.

how about with a flat tire does it still fit?

I have a scizzor jack bought from GM. It goes down to about 3 or 4 inches high to 16 or 18 or so. Stores easy enough too.

i would not use it inless u are going to put a new tire on it.most shops will not piug a tire if u have used it in there.

But with tire slime i have always had good luck with it
