found a 5.3 with harness for $1000obo, should I?

I have a 67sw and I want one but don't know what I'll be getting myself into. I would be searching the forums for help but this iPhone bugs me and it's hard to work LOL. Could someone post a good link or help me out. It's an 04 5.3 with 40,000 miles. What should I look for and what should I be asking the guy? I'm new at newer engines.

That sounds like a good buy, but IMO hearing it run is huge - otherwise it's a crap shoot.

lots of good info on here....look at killer71 build up, project incredible hulk (in the build forums), and my 68 LS1 build (also in the build forums).....hart-rob started a 5.3 swap 'guide' for pertinent info on this subject..... any more specific questions just ask.

Its a gen 4 motor that good. I know alot of the gen 3s had alot of tapping to them when they got up in miles. Sounds like a good deal to me. I would like to have it.

Re: found a 5.3 with harness for $1000obo, should I?

Guy said he'd make me a sweet deal on it, from what he wanted. I found one from a 2002 Z71 from a salave yard, it runs and I can hear it for $550. It has 81,000 miles though. What years are the gen4's? Guy said that all his needs is a waterpump. He said any older tranny will work just fine??? Is it just me or does that sound strange? Maybe not but wouldn't people be paying $100 or so for 350t's instead of the much more OD trannys that are mostly electronic.

The transmissions will work they just require a spacer. As far as I know all of the 5.3 are gen III's. The IV are the ls2's ls3's and such. On the 5.3's the main difference is they went to an electronic throttle in I believe 03 which also use a different harness.
