HOLY SH*T!! New sway bar is AWESOME!!
Just put on my new sway bar, from a C20, poly bushings, and grade8 hardware. Unbef*ckinglievable!! It turns so flat now!! It handles great, even on worn out shocks! I have seen lotsa folks post after putting one and I knew it would be better, but actually FEELING IT is amazing! With the right shocks and a rear bar, I bet this b*tch would CORNER! WOooo hOOooOOoo! Best mod to date!!

From what I understand, anything 67 through around 87 should "bolt right on." I needed brackets that the donor didn't have and had to drill out 2 rivets. After that, it was a true bolt on. Get one from a 3/4 or 1 ton truck if you can, they're thicker. LOVE this mod! Makes me wanna do my shocks now . . .

Yeah, its a BIG difference. Front of the truck is dead level around the tightest turns. I can remember all that leaning I used to do. Makes the front shocks last longer too.

sway bar dia.
I went digging in the junkyard this past week, and I was surprised that many of the 3/4 T trucks had the smaller sway bar. Finally found an 1.25 under a '73 one-ton crewcab. I have ece's bushings and brackets on the way. That is one big sway bar! Btw I have a friend that used stock brackets and ran the sway bar through the inside of the brackets instead of on the bottom. More clearance for a lowered truck, but cant use grease zerk w/o modifications.

Well, the poly bushings I got from gmcPaul are 1 1/8 but I think I might have gotten a 1 1/4 bar. Regardless, it's TOTALLY awesome.

This has got to be the single most noticeable improvement you can make on these trucks. I could not belieave the differance when I installed mine.

Yes its night and day difference. I want to get the low profile brackets for the front sway bar on mine. Tend to scrap the stock ones every once and awhile. LOL

You think a sway bar made a heck of a differance... I'm pretty sure my truck had the origional power steering box... I was so used to having to always turn the wheel back and forth to keep the truck going in a straight line due to the play.. well after putting a new steering box this weekend and having a toe allignment all i gotta say is WOW. I went on the highway today and started turning the wheel back and forth like usual and next thing i know I'm in the next lane. I have a front sway bar and mand does this thing turn now. Wherever I put that wheel it is sure to be there. EXCELLENT way to make the truck more enjoyable... Cliff

I picked apart a '72 C-10 long bed Super Cheyenne a few weeks back and I got the bar off of it. I measured it today and it's an 1 1/16" diameter. I'll have to keep my eye open for a big one now. Thanks for the info....
What size bars are out there.....?

I got one off a 77 blazer would that be a big one or small . Would the small one not do just fine, after all who's going to carry a load like you would in a one ton truck, I can't seem to find a rear sway bar for my 4x4, all the trucks I looked at, had none on the rear, Is that unusual?

1 1/4 is the big boy. Stiffer bar means less body roll. Good for on-road and towing, not so good for 4 wheeling and drag racing. Rear bars are hard to come by.

I put a 1 1/4 inch bar with the poly bushings on my 67 and I am amazed at how much better it handles.

Hotrod,
I ordered mine from Early Classic Ent., along with the mounting bracket for lowered trucks. Just under $50.
