Driveshaft Grease Cap
Does anyone know who sells the toothed washer that fits inside the grease cap on the driveshaft? a few of the teeth are broken or missing on mine.
Sorry Mods if this is classed as a WTB.

Re: Driveshaft Grease Cap
you are OK asking where to get one.
As soon as someone says I have one, then they will get the thread locked, and possibly a mini-vacation from the sight since there is a warning in this thread now. With that being said, I would carry that into a driveshaft shop, and see if they can help you.... that, or hit the junk yards. |

Re: Driveshaft Grease Cap
The problem I have with replacing this part, is not being able to find a description for it in the shop manual so that I can then go to all the vendors and parts suppliers and ask for the thing by name or PT#. Hence this post to see if someone was familiar with this part and could point me in the right direction.
I'm stuffed on the junkyard thing Andy and even the drive shaft shop as there is a severe shortage of 67-72's here in the UK Just to clarify...I was just hoping someone would know this part and say, "thats the fandango washer and you can find them at......!!!!!

Re: Driveshaft Grease Cap
The reason I didn't post in the Parts For Sale was I really just wanted to know what it was and if it was a part that others where familiar with...it's gotten confusing because of the way I worded the post I think, it sounded like a WTB even to me, which I CAN'T do here subscriber or not it must be in the correct forum.
Sorry folks.

Re: WTB... Got it.
eightbanger, I've been staring at the picture and just can't seem to figure out what part of the drive shaft that is.. Almost looks like the inside of slip yoke but I've never seen one like that. |

Re: Driveshaft Grease Cap
wow... I failed to notice a couple things when i responded...
1. Didn't notice your location. I guess you aren't exactly tripping over these trucks over there are you? 2. It completely escaped my attention, that you ARE in fact a paid subscriber. The way you were wording it, saying "Sorry Mods if this is classed as a WTB." that is classic talk for someone trying to get around the rules, in hopes of ppl who have the part selling it to them in private message. I am sorry for the confusion, and the fact that I threw the thread off topic. Please disregard everything I said. |

Re: Driveshaft Grease Cap
I think I have a spare 2-piece drive shaft in the back of one of my parts trucks. I can send you the parts if you have a problem locating them. I see them in the chassis service manual but they are not specifically listed unless they are the "cork packing, washer and retainer". No part numbers however. I will keep looking though.

Re: Driveshaft Grease Cap
It's either a Spicer part # D3E or D3G. D3E if the O.D. of the threaded portion of your slip yoke is 1.65", D3G if it's 1.78". I can't remember which slip is used on the heavy 2-pc. shafts. Either of those part numbers will have a round metal retainer, cork seal, and toothed retainer. Wire brush the threads on the slip yoke, install the new parts in the same order as the old, grease it up and your set for another 40 years.
