It was most likely connected to a fuel vapor recovery canister. It has activated carbon in the canister. When you shut your engine off, there is still gasoline in the manifold and it eventually makes it way into the atmosphere. EPA required the EGR and canisters installed in vehicles to lower the harmful vapors to go into the atmosphere, remember gasoline is considered a toxic flammable liquid. When you start your engine, the vacuum created in the engine, suck the vapors from the canisters, back into the manifold and are burned in your engine. If you don't have a vapor recovery canister, cap off the port on the manifold, to keep it from sucking in air. Your truck will run the same with it or without the canister.

Re: is there a fuel line vent?

it stops right at the frame rail.. just put a hose on it with a bolt in it with a clamp right?? that one doesnt lead to my manifold
