VIN decoding

Hey everyone, I have a '67 GMC C-30 and was wondering if someone could decode the VIN and serial #'s for me. The VIN is CS360OV and the serial # is PC1702B. There is also a small "DD" underneath the VIN on the tag. Does this mean anything? I would like to find out what the original color was also, but the tag on the glove box door is gone. I know it is a 292/4 speed and I think it has an HO72 rear, but I haven't looked at the tag on the axle yet. Any info would be great. Thanks in advance.

Well I'll stab at it as it is written here: odd one at that:

C=Conventional
S=Six cylinder
3= 1ton
60= cab to axle dimension of 60 inches
OV= cab and chassis ordered
P= Pontiac assembly plant
C= 1967 model year
1702 = serial number
B= GVW range of 6001-10000lbs.

Haven't really seen any with the 60 in the vin. Is this all of the vin plate or are you listing the glove box info also?

DD is for Delivery Date, usually blank underneath unless factory ordered.

the rear should be an HO72, and the paint color... you'll have to figure that one out by inspecting thet ruck since you say the SPID is missing

Sorry been gone for a few days. All of the info I gave is on the vin plate on the drivers side door jam. The tag on the glove box is missing. The truck is kind of a baby blue color, but I don't know if it's original. Also I was wondering what is the easiest way to tell a 250 and a 292 apart from the outside?

for original paint color, shine a flash light under the dash... no one ever paints up under there.
The 250 verses 292... look at the motor mounts. If they are in line with each other, then it is the 250. If one is further back than the other, then it is a 292.

Well, it looks like I have a 292 for sure. Thanks for the info. The interior metal and door jams are a beige color, but the rest of the truck is baby blue. Wouldn't it all be the same color if it were original?

oops, i goofed on that. 67 and some 68 trucks had it like that.

Trucks are kinda difficult to paint, at least, it's hard to get EVERYTHING, and then when a truck gets worked, it's real hard to prevent the original color from showing up in scratches and stuff.
If the SPID is missing, then you'll have to do some detective work. Pull back the window gasket a tad and see whats in there, look in the chips and cracks in the paint, look between the bed and cab (assuming you have a bed of sorts on there)

Did some more looking around on the truck. I found the original owners manual and warranty book. My grandpa bought it (barely) used on 10-17-67 according to the warranty card that was still in the booklet. It also listed the numbers for the tranny and rear axle. The tranny is an SM420 and the rear axle is the HO72 with 5.14 gears. I would ask him if it was orignally baby blue, but he passed away in 1978. I looked around and found the vin hand written on the cowl just above the heater core like they did in the factory. The numbers were written over baby blue paint, so I'm thinking thats the original color, strange thing is there are more numbers above the master cylinder, but the paint is a beige color over there. What do ya'll think?

you'd think after all these years, LMC could figure how to decode the VIN.
Ignore the LMC VIN decoder. I looked at that page back in 96 or so, and was confused for over a year untill I found out they are wrong.

I'm starting to see that LMC doesn't know as much as I thought they did. There is a ton more info on this board than anywhere else I've looked.

LMC is getting there act together in a few areas. But, they are still NOTHING compaired to what the other vendors can do for you.
The customor service sucks. No one there can answer your questions. You call them, asking how this piece you just got from them is supposed to work, and they'll take your number and call you back in a day or two. (MAYBE)
The vendors here on the board, some of them will make sure you know whats up when you order the part, some of them will just be more than happy to help you when you are actually having the problem. But they all know the parts they sell, they all know the trucks we work on, they are all gearheads, doing what they love... not just punching the clock to pay the bills.
