While changing out my differential oil today, I noticed a hose coming out of the top of the diff and it goes up to a clamp on the frame. The hose is plugged right past that clamp on the frame. At first, I thought this might be a fill line, but I don't think so. The hose was split so I replaced it. What is this hose for?

Also, I refilled my diff through the plug on the passenger side of the diff case. I basically filled it through that hole until it started seaping out. Is that as full as I need to fill it?

as far as i know you fill the differential to the top of the bolt til she starts leaking like ya did. The hose is actually a vent of some kind so there isnt alot of condensation or junk in the differential dont sweat it lol you did it right

I've heard that plugging off the hose will blow seals because the air has to escape somewhere. Is it true?

The plug at the end of the hose is probably actually a vent.

You're right 85 K5, it is. It just has a dust cap on the end of the vent to keep crap out of it. Noticed that after looking a little closer at it. Thanks!
