2006 Engine noise on acceleration
I just bought a 2006 Silverado 2500HD with a 6.0 engine. I didn't notice it when I test drove it, but on acceleration it knocks under load. I searched the web and found there is a piston slap caused by carbon. But that knocks while idling, not on acceleration. Has anybody had this problem? It doesn't seem like a gas ping. I put high test gas in it to make sure. Any input here?

I don't know how worried I would be about it, expecially under acceleration - it could very well be your fuel source. YOu might give the dealer a call and see what they say.

Re: 2006 Engine noise on acceleration
Our 04 HD at work does this under acceleration. I noticed it last week when I was pulling a bucket lift around.

Re: 2006 Engine noise on acceleration
I brought it back to the dealer Tuesday morning. I had the Sales Manager, Service Adviser, Service Manager, and the Tech that will be working on it ride with me to hear the noise. They all heard it. I told them it has to be fully warmed up for the noise to appear. Today I went in to see the damage. Number 5 rod bearing was scored. They are replacing the crank shaft, main and rod bearings. If it threw the rod, and damaged the cylinder, they would replace the whole engine. They said the 6.0 motor is very reliable, and they never seen anything like this happen. Chevrolet is stepping up and paying for it under warranty. I'm glad to see Chevrolet, and the dealers are treating there customers better. I've been called by the General Manager a few times already to update me on the repairs. This is how they should have been from the beginning. Maybe they wouldn't be in as much trouble like they are. So far I'm happy.

Re: 2006 Engine noise on acceleration
Sorry I forgot tp post what happen. It turned out to be the crank shaft. They replaced the Crank and all the bearings. I got it back, and it's OK now. No more noise. But there is still a noise in the transmission. It makes a winning noise from the planetary gears in the transmission in first gear on acceleration. They said that was normal for that transmission. I'm calling my friend that works for a Chevy Dealer to see what he says.
