A/C compressor for air bags?
I vaugely remember reading something a while back about using an a/c compressor for your air bag set-up. My donor motor came with a compressore that amazingly isn't frozen up. Don't plan on installing a/c in my '62 but do plan on airbags front and rear. Has anybody done or know how to do this conversion and if it actually works? Figured it would save a fair amount of coin if I can utilize that instead of spending big bucks on a purpose built compressor...

Re: A/C compressor for air bags?
I had a buddy that was into offroad 4x4 stuff and he said that people used the a/c compressors to air up their tires after being on the trail. It may be possible to do for bags.
I thought that refridgerant also lubed the compressor...not sure how that would work with bags.

Re: A/C compressor for air bags?
I had forgotten about the compressor needing lubrication, brain fart. I'll have to do some internet surfing and see what pops up. Might be way to filter the line going from compressor ....

Re: A/C compressor for air bags?
Since I started this FAQ I might as well Pimp it some.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=331566 You can use an oil filter and then use a return line to pump the oil back into the York if you are using a york. If you are using a saden type of compressor you can dump aproximately a teaspoon of oil in the compressor now and then, but you will still need a filter to collect the oil. Now the filter isn't one of those water filters you'd pickup from Home Depot. Its a fancier one that is designed to catch oil and probably will set you back around 35bucks. Like I said in that thread I'm by far not an expert, but I've done a bit of research and know several guys running them. The York is the power horse, but the sauden will get the job done very well and most Jeeps come with the Sauden as a factory a/c compressor and they just adapt and make it work. |

Kizer, that is a great link, just what I was looking for! The 350 I got had the compressor as well as two air pumps attached (wonderful smog stuff ).

Hey no problem. I was going to edit the post with some more thoughts, but for some reason I don't seem to be able to edit my posts anymore.
