Labor to install ring & pinon? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

After doing quite a bit of reasearch, i think i destroyed the rearend in my truck. I am proably gonna need a new ring, pinion, and install kit. How many hours of labor would it take for a shop to install this? I don't have much knowledge, lack the tools, and just really dont want to mess with doing it myself.

Depends on the shop. A shop that does them all the time will get you for under $200. A shop that doesnt will rape you ! I've known people to spend over a thousand dollars rebuilding a rear end and thats not go fast goodies either. Just a rebuild. Believe me you'll get one cheaper out of the newspaper or the junkyard.

BTW I was going to answer your other post but it doesnt look like your going to be into doing it yourself.

I did mine 10 years or so ago, It was a handfull, (the first I had done) I would defenitely do it again, but then again I bought all of the mic's and pullers when I did this one.
It's not hard, it's time consuming. You can buy a video to walk you through it. You have to have the "backlash" right on ,or your gears will come to a short life.

I love to do FORD 9". everything is done in the pumpkin on a bench and then you just bolt it in. Mine is a 12 bolt GM Truck though.
