How much damage can dragging LCA's really cause?

Just curious what problems you all have had by your LCA's rubbing occasionally?

Just some minor chafing. Baby powder does wonders.

Mine does it all the time, unless I completely stop over dips and large bumps , but then it makes the people behind me mad, I guess they don't under stand how low my truck really is, and one time I hit a bad patch job in the road and I thought I almost ripped the lower control arms off, but it was loose asphalt, so it just through a lot of the loose stuff under my truck

Get a visual of this, ok. Dragging along on asphalt wont do much damage.

Now imagine the stars are in alignment and you happen to dip at the same time you are crossing over a manhole cover. You know the ones that aren't "quite" flush with the road surface.

I'll let you do the math...

Anything that hangs below the scrub-line is dangerous.....ever have a flat tire?

Re: How much damage can dragging LCA's really cause?

I wish I had pics of when my hondas lca came off. It was nasty. trashed a fender and alot of other stuff. The only thing that sorta held it together was the axle.

Here's an explanation I found online. . .

Scrub Line
Imagine your car-any car-sitting on the street without any tires. The wheels are still there, just without the rubber. Is anything touching the ground? Suspension parts, any brackets, exhaust system, fuel tank, transmission, or motor even? If so, they are below what is called the scrub line, and while you may not worry too much if those massive 6-inch lowering blocks meant the nuts on the U-bolts are now halfway down the sidewall of your rear tire, you'll be in for a nasty surprise if you get a flat on that tire at speed. Those U-bolts will make a nice gouge in the blacktop, and you'll be fighting to stay in control of the car ... if you're lucky. You'll more likely be in the ditch or facing oncoming traffic. Tall tires don't help either, but ensure no part of your undercarriage hangs down below an imaginary line drawn between the bottom of all four rims. In fact, an inch of clearance would be a good idea.
