'68 on bags, "Shop Truck"
Finaly its been nice out and I've had time to start this project. As of right now I'm going to be keeping the stock v8 and 3speed w/overdrive. (Actualy ran the numbers on the block and found out that its not a stock 307, but an '80s 305).
As far a suspension, I have 4 D2600 w/ SD's front plates and cups. ECE's super track bar and shock relocator. Need to get drop spindles and disk brakes yet, and I have the steel to make 2'' blocks. I need to call SD up and order some valves/tank and such. I also had a guy give me a York 210. Took the bed off to start on the back. started by taking the shocks off and cuttin rivits for shock mounts and bump stops. After that I got the spring out and bags mounted/w tep. air lines so I can move it around. Keep in mine nothings painted, and I have to go over everything agian, but this is where im at now. Started with frame rails are on the axle tubes! Next nice day Im going to work on the track bar and shock relocators. |

Re: '68 on bags, "Shop Truck"
Well its been raining for about 2 days now so I havent had a nice day to work on work on my super track bar or the shock relocators. Since I had the stock to make blocks I thought I would use a friends mill and put holes in them! Started by cutting the stock to lenght (used the spacer from my ECE track bar as a templet). Located my holes and started drilling. Started with a 1/4'', then 1/2'', finaly an 7/8'' end mill. The U-bolts that come with the ECE track bar are longer than stock, but dont look long enough for much of a block, so I got new U-bolts from the spring shop that are extra long. Since everyone likes pics..........
Setting up the mill after I cut the stock the length Using the 7/8'' end mill. Done! On a side note, I was at a swap meet last weekend and found a new viair 480 and only payed $100! Came with an viair gauge, little bit of 1/2'' and 1/4'' air line, the filter and extra foam for the filter! Also ordered the viair 3/8 starter kit from SD. So I can start to mount my tank and valves while the beds off. Last edited by nicks05z71; 04-15-2009 at 06:22 PM. |

Re: '68 on bags, "Shop Truck"
Also I have some questions. I know I've seen a thread with this in it but I cant seem to find it.
Would it be a big deal to mount the 480 and 380 on the same tank? I want to wire it up so i can run one or both, so when my tank is really low I could have faster fill times, and when Im at presure I could shut one off. This would also act as a backup if anything should happen to one comp. Another question. Below the axle I have wedges. (correct the angle?) Is everyone putting these back in? I just dont like the fact that I would have to stack 10 things under the axle.....axle tube, track bar, block, wedge....you get the idea. |

I took my tees and drilled and taped 1/8NPT for gauges. I've used locktite 545 on everything. all parker PTC DOT fittings. found some Monster brand 9 wire for the valves, should be here in soon and ill start workin on the wiring. Havent done anything to the front yet. Last edited by nicks05z71; 06-16-2009 at 01:35 AM. |

Re: '68 on bags, "Shop Truck"
More pics...
480 mounted - 380 on the other side Power steering on and working great. Best 50 buck I spent on the truck I think. Going to make it so much nicer to drive. Finaly a side shot. These are the wheels that where on it when I got the truck. sanded, cleaned, and painted white. some tires I had around the house, 255/60/15 if I remeber right. Started running the power wire for the viairs. 4gauge on the pass. side of the truck split into 10gauge. |

Re: '68 on bags, "Shop Truck"
Been awile since I updated this. I've been working on the truck little bits at a time. To date I've mounted all 4 bags, wired, and plumbed. I havent been doing very good taking pictures sorry.. i do have a cellphone pic.
My father signed me up for a goodguys show coming up and I didnt have the truck together.. so I have not put spindles and disks on yet. Stock spindles and uncut cups. It shows because the front is still high. Ive been talking to a paint guy about some pinstripes and maybe a logo, but dont know if that will get done by the show. |
