Radio removal on '74 truck

My Dad has a '74 Suburban and he needs to removal the radio. Does anyone have info or hints on how what the process is for this? Does the whole gauge panel have to be removed? Thanks for any input.

Leave the bezel on. The radio comes out the back.

There's a single phillips screw in the bottom middle of the dash that holds up the plastic air duct. Remove that screw and slde the duct to one side and then it will come out.

From there, reach back behind the radio and you'll feel a backstrap/bracket in the back of the radio. I forget the bolt size, but that needs to come out.

Then pull the radio knobs and you'll see the shaft nuts. I seem to recall they are 9/16 (??) but you'll need a deep thin-wall socket to get at them (or Strap-On's nut driver works well). Once those two nuts are off, slide the radio back toward the firewall, then point the shafts down, then bring it out. At this point it should be easy to unplug the antenna and the 3 plugs on the back.

This is actually a slam-dunk removal, so don't fret on it.
