Re: leaf mixing

Adding an excessive amount of leaves to the springs just makes them stiffer. The ride suffers and off road suspension travel is limited. You need more arch to the springs to ride higher not just thickness of the pack.

Re: leaf mixing

to keep it safe and relatively comfortable, all you can do in the front with 4" lift springs is a zero-rate and a longer shackle. with a 1" zero-rate and a 2" longer shackle, you technically get 2" more of lift in front. with that zero-rate, you'll be able to move your front axle forward 1 1/2" to fit a bigger tire with less lift though.

Re: leaf mixing

Longer shackles on the front can/will effect the caster of the wheels and the angle of the front driveshaft.......I am not a fan

Re: leaf mixing

I've mixed and matched and rebuilt springs lots of times. You won't get a lot of lift, more to change the spring rate. The ones I did usually gave me no more than an inch or two lift. Keep the leaf material the same thickness. Try to keep your shortest leaf no shorter than 18" test them out for ride. Then take them to a good spring shop and have them re-arch them two inches over stock. This process will give you a solid three inches of lift...after the springs settle.

Here's a pic of what NOT to do if you have extra leafs laying around.

Re: leaf mixing

thats all a zero rate is right i could just do 1"-2" worth right or is that unsafe i understand that 12" of cut leaves is un safe

and i may just take my 2nd spring pack and have them re arch it what do i tell them?

Re: leaf mixing

Just tell them you want them re-arched 2 inches over stock. You don't want to go much more than that. Highly arched springs do not flex well and ride horrible.
