Bought a 87 plow truck friday. Finished writing up 3 labs and started to study for final exams coming up. Had lots of eats today with the family over and plenty of good times.

Re: what did you get done Easter 09 Edition

I got the frame for my RetroRod project flipped-over on my homemade 'jig' to finish up the welding on the bottom side of things. I spent the rest of Saturday aquiring all the necessary tools & hardware needed to finish installing some crown moulding for a spare bedroom in the house, washed the 02 TransAm & the 74 (they were both filthy). I then headed out to RedLine raceway for some "9in Tire-Madness" 1/8 mile racing but the sky opened up right as the event was about to kick-off.

After putting in a few hours @ work this morning, we spent the afternoon @ my GF's parents for some Easter grub & quality time w/her family.

Big10 that interior is looking good, your rewards card looks like it sees a good amount of use. i spent the weekend being to embarrassed to drive my suburban because it sounds like crap. should be getting it fixed tomorrow then all will be well. I aslo spent $500 on all new weatherstripping and ordered some drop shackles to get the rearend down a little bit.

Helped a buddy apply Dupli-Color roll on bedliner in a Dodge Ramcharger. He worked on prepping it for about 2 weeks and the final project turned out really nice. That bedliner stuff will kill ya though. Wow, is it very pungent! Talk about a free buzz.. If you ever use this stuff try to keep the garage door open when applying it.

Re: what did you get done Easter 09 Edition

I got my tailgate protector put on and I got my new (to me) lista box and spent most of the time cleaning it up and getting the top, lock, and vise mounted as well as cleaning out all the drawer bearings. The box wasn't a bad deal at all. It was used but in perfect working order, a few scratches here and there and I got a $1500 box for $80. Yay me!

The vise isn't bolted down and it isn't cleaned yet in this pic

Thanks square, the upholstery just cost me materials, which was about $80

Changed my oil, burned my arm on the header, overfilled tranny fluid and had to suck it out the dipstick. At least it didn't taste too bad! All and all it was a pretty good weekend

Re: what did you get done? Easter 09 Edition

I scrounged around a couple of junk yards looking for stuff. Made 2 very valuable discoveries.

1. Junkyards think that everything they have is solid gold. Case in point, a used Edelbrock 3701 manifold. It's sitting in a wrecked blazer whose engine is in pretty good shape. I asked how much it was: $30. It might be worth half that in just scrap aluminum. I just got the distributor pulled and the owner came up and said "Oh. That one is $140. I didn't know you wanted that one." They're only $165 new!
Second example, second junk yard. I asked how much the dead/corroded/ancient Quadrajets were. "$50 if they're on the car. $40 if I've already pulled them." I just want them for the metering rods, hangers, and jets. He has a pile of probably 20 that haven't moved in 10 years.

2nd discovery: A 68 or 69 Buick 430 complete from carb to oil-pan. They want $150 for it. It's been there for a couple of years, but it's sheltered and out of the way inside the bed of a truck w/ a shell.
I found a complete 1967 Skylark 2-door sedan body/frame that's missing the rear end and engine/tranny, but other than that it's in really good shape. I've almost got the guy talked into selling it to me. Been working on it for about a year. I also know where a 1968 12-bolt rear is in a 4-door skylark that I know I can get. So 12-bolt rear, 200-4R tranny (seriously beefed up), 430 engine (TA Performance intake and headers). Front and rear disc brakes, lowered very slightly w/ a good handling suspension. I'm drooling just thinking about it.

With all that torque, maybe I should just put it in a truck!

Re: what did you get done? Easter 09 Edition

Swapped out the calipers on the 87, still have a bad pull right on braking. Discovered that fluid will run out the right hose but not the left, so time for a new left hose. Spent 3 hours degreasing the LF tube (the truck was undercoated with grease!), discovered that the tube nut is 3/8 (all the rears are metric!) and that my 3/8 wrench hits the frame. Did get the prop valve end free. Oh, and the hose is held to the frame by a 15/16 nut that I cna't get loose with an open end and have to remove the line to get a socket on.
Other than that, drove the tractor around the yard (new raised garden in process), hung doors, and vistited in-laws.
Can't wait to get the brakes sorted on the 87 and start driving it!

Saturday was very nice here in North Carolina. I got all of my daily drivers washed and put some Dynomat on the doors of my truck. This stuff is awesome! I cleaned the carpet in the truck, looks much better. Took my wife and daughter out for a great dinner. All in all, it was a nice weekend.
