Cool fuel filler location

This is a link to the featured truck in the current issue of Classic Trucks magazine:

http://www.classictrucks.com/feature...c10/index.html

I'm diggin' that hidden fuel filler! First time I've seen that done. What are everyone's thoughts as to what it would take to put one of those in?

Re: Cool fuel filler location

I think there is a thread here on the board on how that was done. I know at least a couple of members have done it.

Very impractical...especially if you live in a state where there are big rubber boots on the fuel nozzles.

Re: Cool fuel filler location

He probably got the idea from this site.
And as far as the spark comment... uh, there's nothing to worry about there. Kinda like loicense plate lights on flip down plate door covers.
People stress too much about "the spark".

Re: Cool fuel filler location

No offense LHM... but fumes are the most explosive part of gasoline!

That being said, I'm not suggesting a spark from a sidemarker light will trigger and explosion of the tank, but it certainly is something to think about. Especially if fuel is spilled or splattered in the area and there was a short.

One should use extreme caution when having any electrical conducting material around gasoline fumes making sure there are no loose connecors/connections or defective bulb that could create a spark.

I think I have even seen one on the same style of truck where they did the tail light assembly that way.

"I would have no worrys about a rear end collision" said the Pinto owner, "I think hanging the gas tank outboard of the frame is a great Idea" Said the GM engineer.. LOL I think it is a real long shot that it would ever "Blow up" but it does make me think twice?

Well if you are scared of sparks because of wires near the gas tank, then don't ever buy a newer car with the pump in the tank, because the wires are submerged in the gas!!!!!

Fuel can not burn if it has no Oxygen, if it's submerged you could light a road flare in your gas tank and not have a problem. Its the fumes that kill. And for the record, I would do the mod in a second, but then again, I like it a little dangerous LOL

Re: Cool fuel filler location

I saw it the other day. It is a cool place but seems like it would be a tight squeeze for the gas nozzle.

Re: Cool fuel filler location

I like that filler idea, as far as a spark, not too likely, but if you were worried about it, just make sure the lights are turned off when you fill, no juice, no spark !

I am reading threw this waiting for someone to say that. No power to lights... no spark from wire.

it does look a little tight in there.

funny tid bit. My 71 tank nozle was worn out. (I tried new gas caps.. didn't work) So, if i had a full tank it would spill out while making a right turn. If I could smell or see it I knew i had a lot of gas.. and if i could here my electric pump i knew the gas was almost gone. My gauge dosen't work. Usualy I wouldn't fill it to the top because of that problem. I have put my 69 tank in and havn't had the truck going with a full tank to see if it will do it still.

Re: Cool fuel filler location

I agree with 69 1/2 six pack and leddzepp.
Our gas nozzles in CA are huge and would probably be a pain to fill up with if it were a daily driver If its a weekend cruiser then it wouldnt be so bad. You would more than likely end up with spilled gasoline inside the compartment every time you fill it. I do like the mod myself though. It looks sharp

That used to happen to me too. I would fill it up until the pump shut off and it would be like 17 gallons. My needle would go way past full on my gauge and if I took a turn too sharp it would leak out a little. So now I only put about 14 gallons in and it doesn't leak, plus the gauge doesn't go past full.
