Should I try it?

Well I found a Chevy 350 out of a 1978 pickup. Had 79,000 original miles, then the truck got toalled. The guy is parting it out.

I have a blown motor in my truck now and was saving to build somehting really sweat. The motor that is for sell has an Edlebrock carb, chrome valve covers, and is complete with PS Pump, Alternator, and Distributor. Has the oil pan etc. Only thing not comming are the exhaust headers.

The guy wants $500 for it. I am thinking for $500 I can drop it in and run it til death. Also I am thinking that since it is a 4 bolt main it might make a good builder for my jeep.

What do you think? I just hate giving $500 based on a guys word.

Re: Should I try it?

I would want to hear it run personally.
And if that's 80,000 miles and never been opened up, I would seriously consider a cam, timing chain, and oil pump, and then all gaskets.
