Does this cam have a fuel pump lobe?

The problem I am having is my fuel pump isnt pumping....
I have taken it off to be sure it is lined up with the lobe....it appears to be....
With it off....I press like heck on the fuel pump lever and it sounds like it is moving air but when I hook it back up nothing.

I have the inlet line on the fuel pump stuck into a red lawn mower gas can so I know fuel line is not clogged.

Any thoughts or something I may have missed?

yes the rod is in there and it is meeting the lever squarely.

If I pull the fuel pump off should I be able to move the lever manually? When I try it is hard as heck to move but i can move it about 1/4 of an inch it seems and I do hear air moving around.

Anyway to tell if the pump is bad before I spend the bucks on a new one?

Its possible the rod could be bent I saw that once and it was hard to move also

The rod moves fine up against the cam. Its the lever on the fuel pump that takes all the effort.

when you remove the pump the push rod should fall down to the bottom of the cover plate area. is the bolt in the front of the block too long?
the pump spring needs to be strong to keep the push rod against the cam at speed.

I would hold the push rod up with a finger while someone turns the engine over by hand. if the rod does in fact move then it is possible the pump valves are bad.

The push rod does fall down when I take the pump off.....ugh this

In the front of the block there is a threaded hole, actually 2 of them I believe, which I think are a throw back to the 50's small blocks where the motor mounts bolted. One of these bolt passages go through into the fuel pump arm area and will line up with the fuel pump push rod. You can install a longer bolt in it while holding the fuel pump push rod in place, it will snug up on the rod and hold it in place to aid in installing the fuel pump. Of course this has to be removed after getting the pump installed or you will damage the fuel pump rod or worst case senario the cam shaft. I think this is what they are talking about the bolt being too long, although had this been the case, you would have damaged or destroyed something by turning the motor over, there should be a short bolt in this hole, or would possibly leak oil at this location. Well that is my .02 worth, I think that is what they are talking about. I would guess that you fuel pump is faulty, to test it, hook up a long piece of hose to the inlet side of it, put it in a fuel can and turn engine over, should squirt fuel out. You could have a fuel line blockage between the tank and fuel pump.

Your using the stock pump and rod, right? i had a problem once on a 2.8L V6 where i added a crane cam and the stock rod was too short or too long, cant remember. But i would like to think that with that cam everything would be the same.

whats the background on the engine? did you just replace the cam or did you replace other things? did it run alright before now?

History of the engine...
Well I bought it off of an estate where the previous owner died. He had powder coated the frame and had a hi lift cam with a Eldebrock torquer intake.

It ran rough when I towed it home but it was because of the cam I believe.

I took the advise and replaced the fuel pump....that was it.
