71-72 seatcover questions, pics inside
Ok. I have had the orange seat about 8 years. I thought it came out of a 71 truck.
The seatcover i bought last year. And i think it was a 72 the guy had. I actually thought they were the same cover. I was WRONG. I know some of you are guru's at this. Tell me which is which year please. The seat has been sitting covered with a sheet in the garage for years. But i didnt think they made more than one orange seatcover.

Re: 71-72 seatcove questions, pics inside
i think it is actually a highlander seat that someone had reinserted when the plaid went bad. to my knowledge there was only one orange insert. i have a green one that someone did the same thing with. they found something similar and had it reinserted.

I know for a fact that the seat has not been redone. I bought from a guy who had owned it for a long time.
His truck was perfect. And unrestored. With only 40K or so miles. I'm hoping someone else has a seat like the one i have and has pics.

Re: 71-72 seatcover questions, pics inside
The previous owner was unaware that his seat had been reworked before he got it.Seatcovers go before other stuff. That`s not a`71 seat cover at all,but either a 69/70 or`72 Highlander seat with seating areas replaced.I owned a`70 Custom Camper/30 long frame dual wheel that started life as a frame-mount Winnebago. It had medium gold poly to stay with Winnebago`s gold trim theme and a parchment interior. It had the Custom comf & conv package which came with a cloth insert.Winnebago had the factory inserts taken out and replaced with a gold plaid cloth that probably matched the cushions in the already removed camper. It looked absolutely factory and back then I didn`t know any different. This was before repro seat covers and I had a parchment roll`n`pleated cover made to replace it since it was worn through in the seating area. That seat may very well have been taken from a camper conversion and slipped into his`71 before he owned it.The only factory plaid seat was the`72 Highlander.

Re: 71-72 seatcover questions, pics inside
Possible i suppose.
Always something to learn about these trucks isnt there?? I know that IF it ever had been replaced the owner i got it from didn't know. But how did he get seat material to match it for his buckets seats he got from Jerry Browns Truck Shop??

Re: 71-72 seatcover questions, pics inside
You`ll have to ask Jerry. He`s definately a guru.I`m always learning but I`d need something to go on to sway what I know.I`ve had many a conversation with greats like Jerry over the last 25-30 years. It`s possible that a dealer did thier own obscure appearance package.I was mistaken about the cover not being`71.I did forget that it could be a Custom Deluxe cover reworked.I don`t see anything in what you`ll told us that would confirm anything different than what I know.
*Owner didn`t own truck since new, right? *I gave you an example from my experience. *The material could be standard for another vehicle. * The fabric doesn`t have to be factory to be matched. *Is the bucket seat material "exact" *Did you see it? *Are you just accepting what he says as fact? *How honest is this guy? *Is it possible he had the bench done way back, clainms it`s original, and years later had jerry Brown make bucket covers with the rest of what he bought back then? Lots of possibilities. We`ll have to see if there are any others who know.I`m ready to learn something I don`t know.

Special-K is right, the top seat looks like the inserts are another material. I have a 78 mustang ghia that looks like that same exact material. The bottom seat cover is a Northlander cover.

The one still on the seat may have been redone, but the scroll is obviously stock on the seat.

Re: 71-72 seatcover questions, pics inside
Yeah,it`s a stock seat that had the cloth panels redone.I think that`s what liftumup was saying.
I only asked those questions trying to figure this out.I don`t know everything about the deal or anything about the guy.I wasn`t suggesting he lied to get more money or that you got ripped off.Just that I see people tell tales all the time for conversation`s sake,to impress,or whatever reason.Alot of hot air going round when a couple guys get to talking vehicles. An honest guy can be known to embelish a tale a bit.Just like fishin`.Again,I have no idea not being present. But,GM never had a model using that pattern in`71.I know that. And,if they did I`d like to know about it.We would need some facts to go on,like anything else.Something more than this guy said so.It doesn`t mean he`s a liar, just doesn`t know the truth. You`re not tellin`a lie either. You really believe it`s true, right? I started a thread yesterday on differences in seat belts by different makers.I just noticed yesterday and I bought my first`72 in`73 and have had quite a few ever since,as well as doing the truck chat with guys all over the country just like this website and it`s totally new to me.I never heard, saw, orknew any differences. There`s always more to learn. So,if that`s actory,I`dsure like to know for a fact.I really think it`s sewn in and a good job.Guys are taking seats and making highlander covers that you can`t tell were done. Was the truck a 1/2 or 3/4t?What badges did it have on it?Do you think it ever had a camper on it?Camper rigs often had real low miles.Although a slide-in,camper conversion companies did those, too. My`71 Custom camper pickup came with the slide-in that was on it since new...perfect wood floor. The graphics on the camper were turquiose painted over in Ochre to match the truck.Just a tought...
