Re: fan blade throug hood!!
I'd say you got other issues if your fan blade is going through your hood!

Re: fan blade throug hood!!
I don't see a fan clutch! no wonder it broke, that fan wasn't designed to be used like that.
I'm glad you are ok, because that could have been you insted of the hood. |

The entire fan blade busted off. Using that plastic fan mount with a metal fan = trouble |

Re: fan blade throug hood!!
mine didn't go through the hood but it left some nice cutting tools under the hood and a couple holes in the shroud
I didn't rev mine off though, I was in a "little" puddle and the water broke it

And here's more evidence why I never run flex fans, these are not uncommon occurences with them.

That's a classic example of the dangers when using that style "Flex Fan". I've never liked those things and never will. Be very glad you weren't under the hood messing with the motor when it exploded! Happy you're OK, and I agree, a cowl hood would help you get over the trama of an exploding fan!

Re: fan blade throug hood!!
That sounds like mine LOL
Having a clutch fan is not a guarantee that wont happen, similar story different outcome. On the highway to Moms house and blew a blade off. Only it went down and only broke the fan shroud on the way out............it was a clutch fan. Please try and keep in mind.A hard rev while tuning could have the same result.Or worse if you have body parts in the way Also looks like some sort of a fan clutch eliminator on the motor. And I think you now know why they are a bad idea. Flex fans like the one Burlinator has in His pics are cheap for a reason.........Burlinator before I went electric I used a clutch fan for muddin so if something got in it that wouldn't happen. Re: fan blade through hood!!
Good thing you didn't get hurt. My Grandpa, before he passed, was missing most of one thumb from a fan back in the day. I always thought it was kind of a cool story though.

Re: fan blade through hood!!
This is a common problem with these trucks. I know that there was a recall for this problem. When i bought my truck from my uncle, he had the recall paperwork/ work order in the glove box and did a little research. So, your not the only one.

Re: fan blade through hood!!
It is too bad that recalls expire. We could all have a ton of free dealership work done.

Re: fan blade through hood!!
PLEASE be careful around fans. All too often the results of fan separation do not get enough publicity. I lost a good friend Buzz from a Flex Fan disintegrating and practically decapitating him. He was only 35 or so. If I bought a motor with a Flex Fan I would not even start it up with that fan in place. Try thinking when you lean over and jerk on that throttle, you are less than a foot from 4 to 7 knives whirling at 5000 RPM.
