clutch bumper

does the clutch pedal assembly rest against a stop of some kind (rubber) when the clutch pedal is released. My clutch sits too far away from the firewall and is a lot further out than my brake pedal. It also snaps back and clangs against the metal stop. It seems like a part must be missing. My truck is a71 gmc 3/4 4x4. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: clutch bumper

yeah, there's supposed to be a bumper, although, it's not even an inch tall.
You can install a 1/2 inch bolt (7/16 head) in there and use 2 nuts, making an adjustable stop.
