Eaton rear axle inspection plate
DRAT!!!
On my K-20, rear axle, I took the cover off because it was leaking and permatexed the heck out of it and am wondering now if it is upside down!! Does the fill plug go to the left or right side of the vehicle looking at the cover. Going right puts it high going left puts it low. It appears that the bolt pattern is universal allowing this mistake. DRAT!!

Re: Eaton rear axle inspection plate
Like I said: 50/50 chance and what do ya know? I didn't notice it till I was filling up and thought WOW that fill hole is awful high!
Anyway I pulled it off and started over ..............now it's right. Pays to take a second look always. I was so concerned about getting permatex everywhere and in every hole and on every bolt to stop the drip from the cover that I tripped right into the trap!!!!!

Re: Eaton rear axle inspection plate
If you perfectly place the cover on with the drain hole high, it will hit the ring gear.

Re: Eaton rear axle inspection plate
The gasket kit is still available at some auto parts stores. There are 2 different thickness gaskets, they say the thin one is for the front pumkin and the thick one is for the cover?

Re: Eaton rear axle inspection plate
It didn't seem to in my case or perhaps that would have tipped me off. I have the 4:10 if that is a different diameter perhaps???? Regardless, I didn't run it till I turned it back over to the correct position. Only took another hour to remove and start over. Some of my leak comes from the pinion seal I do believe. The worst thing bout em is that the bolt holes go straight through and if threads aren't gooped up good the oil seeps through the bolt holes!!
