Look for the old station wagons with the rear tailgate electric window. It took a key to operate. There are other options also.Keep us posted on how it goes.

Re: rolldown back glass

The 67 truck in the new fast furouis movie has either this mod or no glass at all. Check out the video of it doing the burnouts and the passenger's arm is hanging out the window.

Re: rolldown back glass

We had a member that used an electric window regulator out of an 86 Chevy blazer. Narrowed the sash a little, cut out the pinch weld around the back window and weld in a window channel, cut out the back of the cab and add a 1" box to the back for the window to roll down into it, fabricate a custom stand to bolt the regulator to and then got a piece of custom tempered glass cut 3" taller than the factory glass. I don’t know if he ever finished though and I can't find the pictures I had of his project. I do have a picture of a finished truck that was on eBay a couple years ago that had one; I will attach it to this post. Sadly I do not have the info on how he did it as I would like to add this mod to my truck.

Re: rolldown back glass

Certain Gm pick ups had this option. I used to work with a guy that had one. His truck was all beat up 85 model??, I saw him leave with no back glass, I just thought he'd taken it out for the summer(Redneck style). Nope it was a power back glass.

lts70, I am also interested and I have tried the search to no avail. I thought a limo partition would work but cannot find one wide enough. Thanks.

Re: rolldown back glass

While I think this would be super cool I can't help but think of the draw backs. With a roll down any water that runs down the glass has to go some where. You'd have to make sure to give it a place to drain to. You could also lose cab space and these trucks are tight already. You'd have some work to do trying to get the back of the cab stiff again after making room for the glass.

I am working on a "POP-OUT" rear back window. where the bottom opens up like a side window on an Astro van.

Re: rolldown back glass

I saw a 75 chevy truck that had one and the guy said it was a factory option. It looked factory to me, but it's the only one I've ever seen.

Re: rolldown back glass

There was a thread about this not liong ago.....but I can't seem to find it right now.
There was a company that made a kit to do this, but I can't remember the name. I installed one many years ago in a square body dually, but it was at least 20 years ago.
It was really well made. The track was nice and it did incorporate a drain tube that went through the floor.

Re: rolldown back glass

I have thought about this also, I was thinking about using a power sun roof mechanism that will draw the glass inward then crank it down. That way the OEM look can be maintained. I've stared at my Suburban sun roof for years trying to engineer this in my mind. I think it can work on my truck because I have a small window cab.

Here is the only other thread I could find on it.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php?p=3225071

I know there was another, more concise thread on it but the person that started the thread may have deleted it.

Re: rolldown back glass

Back in the '80's, I remember seeing a rear window called a "Flexthru" used in place of the back window on a cab. The outer ends could be opened up, because the glass (if it was glass) flexed. I'm sure it used something like the side windows on a van, or the extended cab side windows but I'm also gonna bet that the window was Lexan, and not glass.
