C-30 dually rear swap thanks kerns bread truck !!!
hello, i went junkyard hopping and guess what ? i found a direct bolt in dual rear wheel dana 60 4.56:1 ratio ! there are 2 small details thats different but width and all are the same like wheel mounting surface to surface and backing plate to plate perch to perch ...you get the point ...the 2 diffs are that it has 9/16 lug studs run a drill bit through your wheels to enlarge from 1/2 ...unless you are like me and running 9/16 on 1/2 lugs to have one piece wheels !!
the other diff is the shock mounts which our trucks had them on the rearend its self factory ,but not on the frame ,i had added the frame mounts on mine ,the swap rear has the one forward one rear set up . I just removed them and welded the ones from the old housing on the dana prob solved ! the brake lines on this swap in are 3/16 as we know ours have 1/4 all you have to do is to get a rear hose for a 99 3500 4 wheel disk set up ,its long enough and has the tee built in it for the 3/16 lines and the other end is 1/4 to hook up to the existing brake line from the front . I guess thats 3 things diff but what the hay it was easy ...74-81 p-30 step vans (aka bread truck you get the point) go for the v8's they had 4.56 and 4.10 ,the 6 bangers had 5.13 and get this 5.88 gears we wanna drive not move town hall right !!!! hope this helps someone if i had known this 10 years ago i would have had rear brakes that worked right (drums way to thin warped grooved ready to explode )this rear has the nice 13x3.5 brakes to all parts aval. at like advance and auto zone oreilly i price shopped it they had it all auto zone is the cheapest of them all but oreilly has better brake shoes !!!and the match the price ... THIS IS WHAT IT COST ME !.....150 cash for the rear at junk yard (u pull place) 72.61 at oreilly shoes lines hose wheel cyl. wheel seals and axel gaskets commercial price ! NOT TO BAD ? HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE !!! NEED ANY INFO SEND ME A PM!!!!! Last edited by towrecker; 04-20-2009 at 09:54 PM. |

Sounds cool, pictures would be better. What year etc. did the dually rear come from?

Re: C-30 dually rear swap thanks kerns bread truck !!!
Add two more differences. The Dana 60 "pig" sticks out 1.75" more than the Eaton HO "pig" does. You will need a shorter drive shaft. I found three for sale on this board 3 weeks ago. The U-Joint is bigger on the Dana also. Getting a factory Dana drive shaft will take care of both problems.
I am assuming that you have a standard length truck. If not, then disregard the drive shaft length part. It may be good to note that the rear section of the drive shafts are interchangeable for both long wheel base and short wheel base trucks.
