Hood lock idea help

So I leave for work this morning and I notice the hood on my truck isn't latched.... I tell myself "No, I closed the hood tight Saturday night... and I think it was closed yesterday..." (don't drive it daily yet) I popped the hood and everything is still there, Luckily. So now I'm wondering if someone was out last night "shopping around". Or did I leave it unlatched...? Either way what are some ways you guys have made to lock your hoods closed? And do you have any pics?

A buddy of mine has hood pins hidden under the the hood. They are bolted into the hood and pass through the grille support so he has to reach behind the headlights to get the pins out. You can't see that they are even there.

Now that is a great idea! My first thought was hood pins but I didn't want them sticking out the top of my hood, and then its obvious as to what is keeping the hood closed... I'm gonna look into this when I get home tonight. Add it to my to-do list for the weekend. Thank you!!

Lightbulb Re: Hood lock idea help

i looked it over ...my release handle has a small hole like a ear on it ...if one places a small little lock through it you cant release the hood also a machine screw fender washer works with a wing nut on the back ...not fort knox but will keep nosey people and kids out ...a thief by trade will get in no matter what they have to do ,hood pins under is a great idea but yank ,yank no open...bent warped hood just my thoughts ,but i have another idea with a vending machine lock i have an extra hood latch if it works i have at least 50 locks and keys and i will share i have no use for them the idea is to lock the release handle. well thats my idea like everyone i have another way thought up take it as you may!!!

if this works and you want a lock i will not sale you one but i will send ya one if when you get it ,you send me the postage back i think that is fair ...one less coffee can full of crap in the barn

Re: Hood lock idea help

I gotta go with 70. be trying that one myself. but I want the handle gone so no one can open it outside the truck. a bud of mine, with a pretty little 63, hooked up a air horn that only shut off when the hood was closed. you just had to know where to undo the horn wire/trigger/dooohmahickey. even knowing it was there still scared that s#!t outta you if you forgot about it and popped the hood.

Re: Hood lock idea help

I came out of a store one day and found a guy "looking" at my engine. After I confronted him about it, I went home and rigged something up. I took a small piece of flat bar about 6 inches long, and drilled a hole in each end. One end bolted and double nutted on the back to the panel behind the release handle. The other hole I lined up with the hole in the release handle. I put a small brass padlock on it. It's hard to see works great. I'll try to get some pictures today.

Re: Hood lock idea help

Wow, I really like the cable idea. Nothing says you can't fabricate a cable and put it under your seat or something so its not obviously mounted to your dash. Heck hide it behind your seat for those with tilt up bench seats. Unless your under the hood tons.

My only concern would be something has to be able to open the hood incase of fire and I think a lock might be a time waster opposed to pulling a cable. Who knows either way.
