Dodgy glove box
I had my Chev painted and when I picked it up I found that when I hit a bump the glove box would fly open.
I took it back and they "fixed it" Still flew open so I took it back today. Now you only have to look sideways at it and it jumps open knee capping my passenger. Has anyone else found this problem and do you have any ideas to fix it?

Lara,
Make sure that the lock bolt isn't broken. Pay special attention to the very top portion. Sometimes the lock bolt wears thin where the catch rubs on it and breaks off. If that is the problem you might be able to shim the catch down so it engages again. If the lock bolt is broken off completely or missing you will probably have to replace the lock. If you need one and can't find one let me know. LockDoc

When I read the title, I though it was a conversion from a Dodge glove box.
Probably can pick a lock fairly cheap at a junkyard if you can find one over in your part of the world. GMCPaul and other's sell them but shipping may be your biggest cost??? Re: leaving it open... It's also serves as a place to place your coffee or your passenger's coffee while you drive through all the bumps...

Look at the upper part of the glove box opening. There is a plate held by 2 screws that the lock catches on. If they took it loose to paint the inside of the truck loosen them up and slide it back down so the door lock catches it good.

Thanx folks - I will try that.
I have just spent 6 very enjoyable hours sitting beside the road. No phone service and in the middle of a mountain range with no safe spots to pull over. My fuel tanks are not switching over and so while I thought we had switched to the full tank we ran dry on the empty one. I love my Chev. I love my Chev. I love my Chev!!!

Well, you just left us hanging... How'd you fix it and get back?
btw: Some years ago my wife and I drove through the mountains of Oregon/Idaho. She had never been on mountain roads before. Logging trucks barreled down behind us at tremendous speeds with no place to get out of their way. I was just hoping they would notice my Texas plates and have some sympathy...

Satellite phones are still not reliable. I have to work all day and then get home and pack for this road trip including fixing my fuel tank switch, my glove box etc. Right now I would date a man just so he could help me - he could do the jobs I hate like a load or 5 of washing.
