Amateur rust repair
I bought a 1972 Jimmy about a month ago and it needed a little rust repair on the top rail of the bedside. Just thought I would show a few pics of what I did. Cut out the are, then cut it out bigger because of more rust than I thouight! I bought the repair piece from Teeitup last week.

Welding it in and grinding it down. I didn't use any bondo yet, I just wanted to fix that spot! Now I can concentrate on the drivetrain, I need the tranny rebuilt! Thanks to Randy(Teeitup) for the piece I needed it worked out perfrect.

Re: Amateur rust repair
Looks great. What other rust is hiding in there?

No other rust other than a little in the floor and back corner of doors. Thats all!

Re: Amateur rust repair
you are better off not taping off your repair. when it comes to sanding that later it will give you issues. just let it overspray.

Good Job, the hardest part is doing it...Contrary to what some people would have you believe, no one was an expert when they started, right?

Re: Amateur rust repair
I am not too worried about the edge from the tape as I will be going over the complete body at some point. I believe the reason the rust was in this spot is because there was a small dent right at the top of the bedside just under the top. I think this dent let water travel under the top and sit on the bed rail. I knew it was there when I bought it, but the truck was basically rust free everywhere else, this is not where you typically see rust on these things! Now all I need is a new tranny or rebuild mine.
