ATTN: Members with '67's
I have a question for ya'll. I was just out messing with my panel, and noticed that the first notch I pull out on the light switch, switches on the front and rear parking lights (which is what it's supposed to do), When I pull it out all the way, the headlights come on, the taillights stay on, but my parking lights go off. Is it supposed to do this? The 68 doesn't, but the old 66 I had was the same way as the panel...

I have never seen a '67 where the parking lights in front stayed on. Was not required before '68.
Had a thread on this not too long ago on Wes's board. Some one figured how to do it to where they worked like the later trucks, but I can not find the thread. ------------------ '69 G.M.C. 350/350. Viper, we're talking about the fromt markers...parking lamps, not the side markers.

yes, the front parking lights do go out when the headlights come on in 67. My 66 Chevelle was the same way. I believe the difference with 67 going out and 68 staying on is strictly in the headlight switch.
If you find that post for re-wiring the 67, re-post it. I would like to see what they did. Thanks ------------------ 67 SWB 4x4 - 396 BB / SM420 4 spd 8" lift / 15x14 Welds & 35X14.5 SSR's Grants Pass, OR

If you look on the back of your light switch you will find an empty slot. On my truck the parking lights are the purple wire. If you put the purple wire on the empty slot the parking lights will stay on.

Yeah, I noticed the Parking lights went out with headlights-on for '67. I had to check out somebody else's '67 stepside just to verify it wasn't a glitch. When I hit a deer with my '67 K/10 Sub ( bambi lost) I had to swap out the grille with one off a '68. All was identical except for the Parking light connectors. The '68 had spade connectors with one across and one vertical, the '67s were one across and one diagonal. They wouldn't connect so I had to swap in my '67 parking lamp assemblies. Then it worked OK -- '67 style. I just added Fog lights in bumper cutouts ('71/'72-style) to get that well lit feeling. Didn't know the gag with the Purple wire!
BTW my '68 has only marker reflectors, no wiring , no lamps. I thought that didn't come in til '69? Anyone have a '68 with factory side marker Electric lights?

Y'all must be a lot younger than me. All cars/trucks used to have the parking lights go off when the headlights were turned on. Check any stock vehicle prior to '67. I believe it was a federal law that required them to stay on beginning around 1968.

sorry to reply to this post so late but I just spent two whole extra days after my rewire project trying to figure out why my front park lamps wouldn't come on while the beams were on. I tried new bulbs, got a new light switch of CPNE and even followed wires the whole way back between the front end to the fuse panel. The guy who inspected the truck here in PA was stumped and told me not to worry about it. Go figure, after a week of almost being commited to the funny farm, I finally read this post. Now I can finally take the wrist restraints off while I go to sleep tonight (if the wife will let me)!
