Need help deciphering a VIN. - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

From the info I recieved this truck is a 1971 Chevrolet 1/2 ton Longbed. It is now 4 wheel drive if it wasn't before. The VIN is-

CCE142F302639

Anyone have any ideas? All I could get from the decoder online was that it was assembled on Flint, Michigan.

Dang man. Somebody has been playing with this truck for awhile. I thought it was a 72 because of the mirrors.

I got this vin off a build sheet on the reverse side of the glove box door. The VIN may be right but it's probably not the official location. Where was the original VIN location on these years? The truck is in the shop and i'd like to stop by and verify that the VIN I have and the original match up. I think someone told me it would be on the door jam?

open the drivers side door, and look in the door jamb, below the vent that is under the striker.

Thanks man. I'll update tomorrow. It seems this truck has a looooong history though. I bought it in Kentucky, it has the name of a dealer in fort worth Texas embossed on the rear bumper and i live in Tennessee. Plus it has a block heater. None of the states below the Mason Dixon generally use these so....

texans still tend to think they get rough winters... the first time I heard that on a comercial down there ("get ready for the upcoming rough texas winter"... with sounds of wind in the background) I almost wrecked the cart I was laughing so hard.
Also, if it isn't listed on the SPID, then it didn't come off the assembly line with it. I'd bet the block heater was added.
