Question Any pics of original reddish orange 71 trucks?

I have a 71 Cheyenne that was originally orange w/white. I think it was the reddish orange color but not sure. Paper on glove door doesn't list the paint code. It's either an orange or reddish orange for sure.

If anyone has a pic of this color, preferably shiny and on a 71, can you please post it.

I have to decide between the original reddish orange or a custom pure red.

Thanks,

Bob

Re: Any pics of original reddish orange 71 trucks?

You are probably after the 1971 paint code for "Hugger" orange. Also called red orange in 1970.

Here is a pic of mine, sorry, not original but it IS an original Dupont paint used on these trucks.

It's not very shiny, but here's my '71 "Light Red" truck. Everyone calls it orange, but you can see by the SPID that it's considered red. The interior paint is in much better shape and will give you a better idea of what it looks like. Your choices in '71 were Light/Medium Orange, Hugger Orange, or Light/Medium Red. Flame Red was a GMC only color and is a much "redder" color.

Re: Any pics of original reddish orange 71 trucks?

Thanks guys. This must be light red then. Below is a pic of my dash which seems to match the one above.

I must have been thinking of the GMC red/orange. I like that shade and might go with that or pure red.

I love Hugger orange but the problem is, I have a 72 Chevelle I painted that color and don't think much of having 2 vehicles the same color. I'll post my Chevelle below too so you can see that color on a car.

Re: Any pics of original reddish orange 71 trucks?

The cool thing about Light (or Medium depending on the SPID) Red is that it can look either very orange or very red depending on the weather, time of day etc... I'm sure that when I get my truck repainted, it will look a lot redder. The old paint is pretty oxidized and faded. I'll stick with this color because I plan on keeping my truck original and because I like it! Nice Chevelle by the way!

Is that the same as the GMC red-orange? Looks like it.

Re: Any pics of original reddish orange 71 trucks?

Here is my 71 4x4 still wearing the factory paint. It is code 514 light red. It has lost some of its "red" tint, but not too much. It looks more orange to me than red.

I like that shade!!! To me, it looks more red than orange. LOL

Does anyone have the 72 GMC color to compare to?

Thanks,

Bob
