Bed Placement
What's the correct distance between the cab and the bed?

The top of the bed has a rolled piece. That rolled piece should be about an inch away from the back of the cab.
Measure in the front bed below the center of the rear window. it should be pretty uniform. ------------------ Scrub 70 GMC 1,000,000 + miles 72 K-20 project, 456 Dana60 front, Corp14 rear w/locker, 265R19.5 tires 20-ply. I'm confused - but I get that way easily.
The corners of the cab are rounded. Where do you get your measurements from? Do you shoot a straight line from the back of the cab and measure from the rolled lip on the box? Maybe a better way to ask is, how far back from the center of the cab to the box? Thanks for the help. |

If it is too tight it might rub or bind between cab and bed. I've seen fingers pinched between top of bed front and cab when truck flexed a little on straight trucks. I measured 2 straight stock unhit trucks just now. 1st is a 71 3/4 ton 2 wheel drive, gap measured 13/16th - 7/8". 2nd is 72 1/2 ton , 2-wheel drive measures 7/8- 1 1/4". Neither variation is noticeable. I would set in this range and try to get it as even as possible.

cheyenne10 I think you are right, around an inch is about right. I would look at the gap down both sides also and see if it is even as well as the gap between the cab and the front of the bed.
