when i go to start my truck i crank it over but it just will not start. every once in a while it will start but then stop after just a few seconds if i press the gas pedal the engine will stall. i put on a q jet four barrel and i have replaced the fuel filter and pump.

sounds like the carb needs to be adjusted, the mixture might not be right. When it does start, is it miss firing? is the choke on? the more details you can give the better. good luck!

when the carb runs it runs real bad but i don't have enough time to adust it before it stalls the choke is not installed on the carb and the pcv vacuum hose is not on. on the fuel mixture screws which way do i have to turn the screws to let more fuel in or to let less fuel in. do they both have to be turned the same amount?

if the pcv is not hooked up, is it at least capped off? you really should have the pcv hooked up right, as it pulls fumes out of the crankcase. if its just open, it will cause a huge vacuum leak. I believe the mixture screws are: the farther they are out, the richer (more gas) it is. (its been about 3yrs since I touched a q jet) A good base setting is about 2 turns out, but every engine is a little different and yes they should be set real close to the same. If it has no choke you might need to turn the idle up a little when the motor is cold. good luck!
