OK, I gave up and took off the old alternator that was on a bracket at the bottom driver's side of the 283. The bolt was already broken off in the block and seized in the alternator. Torch got it out of the block but I couldn't get it out of the alternator. Bought a new Champion alternator with external regulator. Would someone be so kind as to post a couple of pictures of how it is supposed to go on? My block only has holes on the bottom driver side for mounting. The PO had the alternator bracket (the sickle looking one on upside down and the alternator pivot was all warped to make it work. I'd like to get it on right for a change.

It is a little difficult to show the brackets but this is what I have on my 65 Impala which has the same mounting. The alternator bolts to the left manifold which has two tapped holes in the end. There is a stepped bracket that bolts to the manifold and to the water pump. The bracket just shows in the pic attached.

The adjustment bracket bolts to the front of the manifold.

Thanks for the picture. I put mine back where it was with some long stove bolts and lots of washers for keeping the pivot tight. I would like to move the alternator up top but I'd have to do what you did. I saw some kits on the internet for the lower mount but they look like they use 3 holes on the block and I have only two. Maybe one is for the pivot?

Jim,is your engine bay correct?Cause some of it is different from my 65.
Radiator and spacer is different as well as you have no shroud.
And the front upper adjusting bracket is missing from your A/C compressor.
Not to high-jack this thread or be picky.I've been trying to put mine back to original for some time and keep seeing conflicting arrangements.
And you are correct about the alternator mounting.GM used that set-up for a lot of years on cars and trucks.

Yeah thanks for the pics my alternator is the kind that mounts to the top and power steering below that.
