is it ok to drive 3rd gear-700r4
Around town in drive it's around 1100 rpm. It seems better to drive in 3rd around town and just use 4th gear on the freeway. Is it ok to just stay in 3rd. It's a 700r4 auto.

I do it every day. Daily driven for 4 years, and no problems.

I did that for 12 years on my 89 Chevy truck and never needed a transmission.

when I moved to San Diego it was the first time I never left a Tranny in O/D. With good old Flat Florida I grew up in the only time you didn't was when towing.

Re: is it ok to drive 3rd gear-700r4
I run my truck in 3rd in town, due to the stall converter that I have installed. It keeps my RPMs up and the engine functions better with the cam that I am running.

I'm with everyone else. I've been doing that with my 700R since '06. If yours is set up correctly (set up like stock) the TC locks in both 3rd and OD. I leave my truck in 3rd until it hits about 50mph.

Re: is it ok to drive 3rd gear-700r4
I had an '89 with a 700R4 and drove it in town in 3rd (basically anything less than 45mph) it kept the trans from 'hunting' between 3rd and OD. In my current '05 GMC I leave it in 3rd as well while in town, and since this trans locks up in 3rd, the rpms are still kept low. never had any problems in either truck.
