passenger window off it's track
hey all,
03 tahoe. Passenger window seems to be off track. The tray moves up and down fine with a push of the button, but the window doesn't move. When the tray is down you can push the window down. But, when you hit the up button, the tray comes up without the glass. The truck is my sisters and it's in the repair shop now. They say it's a window regulator. To me this doesn't seem like the problem. Isn't the window regulator simply the motor? The motor seems to be working fine. It seems to me that whatever holds the glass to the tray has broken. Just wondering if it could be the regulator? The reason I ask is that it seems like this shop is trying to rip off my sister. So far to replace the speedometer, certify, emissions test, fix the window and replace the rear brake pads (no labour/warrenty...just pay for pads) the cost is aroun $1500 + tax = 1800. That is before they put the truck on the scanner and see why it's running lean. thanks guys. |

Re: passenger window off it's track
The regulator is everything that moves the window, the window tray, the arms, gear and sometimes the motor. It looks like your in Canada so I'm not sure how $1500 Can. compares to US but $1500 sounds high to me. Did she take it to a dealership? If they are using GM parts, that might be more like it. What happened to the speedometer? I know on the 03 and some 04s there were issues with the little motors (stepper motor) that run the needles up and down, get stuck or just quit working. GM is repairing these for free if under 60,000 or 70,000 miles in the US. Other wise this is probably a $3-$400 part byitself. Also what is the tax rate? Your math comes out to 20%--Holy Crap!!!!

Re: passenger window off it's track
Hey,
thanks for the reply. She has the truck at a local chain mechanic plasce. I am going to give them th ebenefit of the doubt because they have been fairly good with previous repairs. Although they did hit her with the lifetime brake pad scam.....sell you 10$ brake pads and everytime you come back offer to swap them just for the price of labour....which is like $200! Oh well, She got 3 years out of those pads so who can complain I guess. I have read the posts about that speedometer problem. Unfortunately, that recall/repair thing does not apply in Canada, and her truck has about 100,000 miles on it now anyways. The part is $500. The kicker is that she would have to wait 2 weeks to get one. This seems indicative of GM's problems. Selll an expensive truck with many problems, then don't stock the parts to fix the problems. She is putting in a used speedometer for $300....eventhough i told her it will probably break! Sigh. Well normally I would do all this myself but it's in the middle of exam time at school and she has to have it certified and emissions tested by wed. thanks ! oh, can you repair the tray? Obviously it's just a clip that broke off the tray which holds the window in place. Could this not be fixed or atleast can I mcgiver it? |

Re: passenger window off it's track
Take the door panel off and look.
It sounds to me like the cable snapped. Everything is "one piece" inside the door and there really isn't much of a way to repair it, just replace it. I broke my PS window this winter (tried to open it when it was frozen, my stupid fault) and got one off ebay for $40, and had it installed in 30 minutes. http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trk...All-Categories

Re: passenger window off it's track
Shoot, my ebay link doesn't work. Sorry.
Just type in "tahoe window regulator" and you'll get a lot of "hits" to choose from.

[QUOTE=silky;3286323] She is putting in a used speedometer for $300....eventhough i told her it will probably break!
QUOTE] There are services out there that do fix them for a much lower price, about $175. The is a sponsor on the FullSizeChevy.com forums that advertises repairs. It is also possible to replace the faulty motors yourself, serch the FSC forums for it. I'm thinking I read a link or 2 on doing it yourself.

Re: passenger window off it's track
Another problem with them is they tend to cut a groove into the plastic guide and tangle up in the motor. We have fixed alot of these and we charge two hours labor plus the parts.

Re: passenger window off it's track
sounds like the regualor is binding, very common like the above threads say, theres speedo shops around that can rebuild your cluster for around 200 I believe, it might be worth shopping around
