Unhappy think i broke my ps..

seriously i had too much fun this week with my truck...

when sitting (or moving slowly) the PS feels "jerky"...
going to lift up the frint end this weekend and check the PS components..
any reccomendations?
might take off the motor itself and see if it's trashed inside..
any ideas?

Re: think i broke my ps..

Maybe a tooth broken on your steer gear?

Or a whooped rag joint that's got slop & binds up?

Those are just my 2 best guesses, I have no idea.

Re: think i broke my ps..

How 'bout belt tension? Also what were you doing last weekend that might have damaged the PS? If you were "4 wheelin" you may have bent some suspension components that might make it feel funny.

Re: think i broke my ps..

Could be a belt slipping, check for very shinny underside of the belt. If it is super shinny I would buy a new belt.

Re: think i broke my ps..

it's the weird looking 'joint' in your steering shaft...don't know how to describe it, looks like a disk in the shaft. 'whooped' as in not completely busted, but having play in it.

pic in this post is a rag joint

and another rag joint thread

Re: think i broke my ps..

ok yall
doublechecked the fluid level
and re tightened the belt ( how it squeals when i do this)
then i bring the steering more than 1/3 out to the left (from center)
or to the right (from center)
the pump does the same crap still
soooo!
i got under the hood and moved the shaft by hand to make the tires go left and right and watched the pump pulley slow down...
BUT
it only does it at that one moment.. after that 1/3 either direction from center it hitches and then works fine.....

is my ps pump wearing out?
OR should i pull off the steering stabalizers to see if it still does it

Re: think i broke my ps..

ok still squealing, and i feel not so good about my truck today..
it is doin still as the described above, have friend turn wheel and you can see the pump wheel slow dramatically ( i painted a small white line so i could have a visualization for wheel speed)
what should i do?

i was thinking about opening the lines.. draining the fluids out.. and checking every thing out basically
any input or ideas?

If you decide that you need to get your box repaired

http://www.powersteering.com/

I met them at a local swap meet several years back
They seem to specialize in pumps and know them very well.

Re: think i broke my ps..

If the pump "slows" but the rest of the engine does not.....the belt is still slipping, whether it makes any noise or not.
