How will a 265/75-16 tire fit on a 10" wide wheel?

I'm thinking a 265/75-16 may be to narrow for a 10" wide rim? What do y'all think? Any examples?

Thanks

hummm, may be a bit too narrow. you may give a tire shop a call (perferrably one with some older guys working at it who know what they are doing) and ask.

but imho, I wouldn't go over an 8" wide rim for that size.

OOHH, I think they will, It may be a little tight, kinda depends on what the tire manf. reccommends. You don't want to have them blow a bead on you. Check the tire manf. website , it should tell you the reccommended rim width. My 275/55-17 say a 17x9.5 to 17x10.5.FWIW

thinking about it again....

265 = 10.4", so in reality you would have .2" overhang, which isn't too bad.

BUT like MT said, check with the manufacturer to be sure.

I wouldn't do that at all. The sidewalls were not meant to be spread that far apart and you will experience very uneven tire wear. That tire is supposed to be on a 6-8 inch rim with 8 being the max.

Yeah, I wasn't real comfortable with it that's why I asked.

Question, I know the 3/4 tons were available with an optional 16.5x9.75 rim. So, what size tires did they come with originally?

dont know the exact size but it was a bias tire and they can b spread wider with no effect like radials suffer

I've never seen a 16.5" wheel that wide.

I know I have 265/75/16 on my 4x4 and they're on 8" rims. I wouldn't go any wider or you'll ruin the tread pretty quick.

10.00-16.5,no longer available.

A 10" rim is too wide for a 265/75.And 8" rim is stretching it.Figure a 285/75 is ideal on an 8" rim.265s don`t have a 10" tread. You don`t want your wheel width to exceed your tread width.Figure a 12" tire is where the 10" rim begins to be recommended, with an 8" still acceptable. My 285/75-16 Uniroyal Laredo AWTs have an 8 3/4" tread width.I ran 265/75s as my 1st replacements on stock`92 rims that came with 245/75s mounted from factory.265/75s are the max. recommended size for stock steel 8-lug wheels.285/75s will crown on that rim a bit. But,that`s what I`ve done with good results. This is the first Uniroyals since the original set and they seem to lay flat on the road.Like I said,an 8" would be a better width.
You have to stay in the same rim diameter and profile series, such as 75,when comparing tire dimensions. All these newfangled sizes blow any standardization right out of the water.

So my guess is the 16.5x9.75 rim guys are running 33x12.50-16.5?

I think those will barely fit on my stock 3/4 ton 2wd.

never consider a 16.5 rim.... Honestly its crap.

alot of places wont mount them... or well aren't supposed to. A good amount of places wont mount any of the half sizes...

They will definitely not fit on the front without a lift. I ran 33x12.5x15 on the rear of a 76 chevy (and they have large openings) and they would barely fit. No go on the front whatsoever.

Yup, I have been running those for quite a few years...

What? Never heard of that, nor had any issues with mine, ever. 16" tires come with a warning not to mount them on 16.5" rims (DUH!). Or maybe you are thinking of a lock-ring wheel (or split rim)?... I've seen those in 16", but not 16.5"

Calling you on that one. That`s pure bunk and you need to find a "real" tire shop. Some idiots have been known to attempt mounting 16.5s on 16s and visa-versa.They deserve the Darwin award.

My`71 w/9.50x16.5s on 8.25s on front and 12.50/33-16.5s on 9.75s,stock original suspension,and camper loaded for a 2 week vacation:

Re: How will a 265/75-16 tire fit on a 10" wide wheel?

sorry let me re-state that....

At discount tire/Americas tire at least the discount tire i work at in Tennessee wont do the half sizes they have told people they cant. I believe my region is the same as well. All i do is a tire tech so i don't know the details or anything if its my store the whole region or the entire company.... But if its the entire company then that's over half the tire industry in America. But it could only be my store which then that's one out of 730 discounts.

Its probably just my store or region... Theirs a ton of diffrent rules for diffrent regions. Like Tennessee region cant lift minivans but every were else can.

And all I can add is that my last set of 16.5s were installed at America's Tire with no issues or mention of any possible problems. Not even an extra charge for their trouble....

Maybe someone at your store mounted 16" tires on 16.5 wheels, and your store manager's solution was "No More 16.5s"?

The it must just be a store or region thing. Im thinking store. I know for a fact that 22.5 are out of the question for us as well as 17.5 but i could have sworn the manager said 16.5's to

Yeah, the only rim I know of that is not supposed to be mounted anymore is the two piece for bigger trucks. Never heard of a store that wouldn't mount a 16.5 unless they didn't have tires that size.
