tie rod question

im am going to be putting 71-72 spindles on my 67 when doing thiss do i need to switch the outer tie rod also and if so can i just switch the inner and ajuster sleeve to make it easier?

Going by memory, but Im pretty sure on the 67+ the thread pitch and diameter of the tie rods are all the same, so you can use the adjusters on anything 67+. 60-66 were the years where they were all smaller, and had some model breaks.

I had all of the interchangeable parts written down a while back when I was going to swap parts around from year to year. I threw it away I think when I figured out it wasnt worth the trouble in my situation, and just got a whole 73-87 front end.

Cliff notes: Use the 71-71 outter tie rod ends with the 67 aduster sleeves.

71-72 and 73-87 outers are bigger diameter. (11/16" compared to the smaller 5/8" of the 67-70 models)
I just did this swap on my 69.
You need all of the same year parts, (71-72 or 73-87), Center link, ider, pitman arm, tie rods and and adjusters, etc)
OR,... you can use a conversion sleeve to adapt the bigger outer tie rods to the smaller diameter inner tie rods.

Well, I looked for the paper but couldnt find it. Im pretty sure I threw it away.

I coulda swore all the adjuster sleeves after 67 were the same. I was trying to put 71-72 spindles on a 64 truck. If I would have had the next body style up, I would have just had to have the outters, but the 60-66 years were the oddballs.

I did the same thing you are doing. only thing is that I used the 71-71 front cross member, but kept the manual steering for mine. you need to use the 71-72 relay shaft and tie rods inner and outer and sleeves. if u have the manual steering you need to make the hole on the shaft that mounts to the pitman a lil bigger. you also need to use the idler arm to for a 71-72 truck.
