Is it just me or is my rear in my 72 half ton 4x4 3" narrower than the front? I am trying to get some wheel ideas and my buddy's 10" mags on 35 bfgs barely stick out in rear (fleet side) and stick out approx. 2.5" up front. I did put a 14 bolt sf in rear, so the rear isn't stock, but it measures exactly the same as the 12 bolt that was in it, measures 64" from flange to flange. Just wondering if maybe that the isn't correct rear track width.

BTW, these are not the wheels I spoke of above...I'll post a pic of those mags soon.

Yes the rear is narrower than the front. That is the way the built them, and all vehicles are that way.

I don`t know about 2wds,but it`s true with 4wds.Who cares about 2wds anyway?

I`ve had people who were behind me tell me my truck was crabbin`alot over the years.I always tell them to drift to the other side and see if it`s crabbin`that way,too...yup! They track best that way,especially in 4wd.

Yup, all of the 4x4s are like that. I have seen people use either wider wheels on the back or wheels with more off-set. Either will do it, but then you can't rotate them front to rear.

What about longer studs and spacers on the rear?

That's what I was getting at...but not too sure how strong they may be. I can get some 1.25" spacers (just lone enough to go over the studs @ rear) that need their own lug nuts and have studs in them to attach the wheels to. I know everyone has mixed feelings about them, I have never used them and may give them a try. I wonder what u guys think. I do have a step bed I could use, but would have to get it painted, but the rear would "appear" to stick out similar to the front that way I think.

2wd's are that way too...

I guess it depends upon how hard you use the truck and how big the tires will be. The only kind of spacer I would even consider are the "bolt-on" style that you mentioned, but if you are hard on this truck, they may not stand up to it.

Sorry to say that this is probably gonna be a road queen about 90 percent of the time.

But, I have a 70 LB that I am gettin the itch to build. the only prob is that it is a 2wd. Maybe I can convert it.
