question on drum brakes - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

before I actually tear it apart to measure, can anyone tell me what size/width my brake shoes might be? 70 LWB C-10, 4 wheel drum brakes. I had it apart a long time ago but can't remember for sure if they are the same size all around. The reason I ask is the auto parts store asks what size the rears are. Would the back ones be wider? Did they put the wider ones on 1/2 ton trucks? Should I just tear it apart to find out?

Common size is 11 x 2, same front and back.

What I like to do when it's possible, is to take the part with me when I go to the parts store. I just hate to get back to the house and find out they placed the wrong ones in the box or just plain screwed up. (Been burned too many times).

Strangely enough, I just had my rear brake drums off last night to measure. There 11 x 2" as well. The front drums are tougher since you need to take the hubs off with the drums. I'm assuming they're the same.

i'd take apart to look and measure at minimum, a good inspection before diving in to a 40year old brake system assure you get ALL tyhe parts you need in one trip. drums hardware etc all need to b looked at
