need template for cab lights for new burb
hello:
i just joined this club and i'm about to pass papers on a 72 burb 3/4 ton 2wd. my dad had a 72 1/2 ton 2wd back in the 80's....a custom deluxe fully loaded with cab lights. well...we found the truck in a local junkyard in '95 a couple years after my dad had sold it. the interior and all the usable pieces had been stripped (the floors and rockers were gone from rust) but i saved the chrome teardrop roof lamps that were one of my favorite features. i am hoping to mount them on my new truck after i take delivery in a couple days but i need the template or whatever that the dealer used to mount the lights. i don't want to guess, i want to get the positions exactly. anyone know where i can get something like this? the truck has the original 307 with the 3 on the tree and only 77k on the clock so it will run good for now (i have a 406sbc and 700-r4 saved for the future that we ran in my dad's 84 sub 2wd...his second burban). it has a class 2 frame mounted hitch with a bar and i plan to replace that with a class IV hitch for heavy trailering. the other upgrades that i plan for the near future are 1-1/4" front and 1-1/8" rear sway bar to make it more stable. later on i plan to replace the sporty mirrors with the stainless flip out towing mirrors from my dad's 84 (saved before junking it) burb and the trailer brake controller and wiring (also from the '84) that i swapped into his current 87 2wd burb and will be donated to my truck eventually. other than that i will fix up the couple tiny rust blemishes and just enjoy driving my classic suburban. my dad is looking into downsizing when the inspection runs out on his 87 (ex-texas truck that is rusty after 10 years up here in maine) and i wanted to carry on the mantle. i was heartbroken when he sold his 72 and vowed that someday i would have one for myself. i will do my best to keep it in good shape but it will certainly see its share of hard work carrying people, cargo and towing trailers (we still have our 71 holiday 23 footer that we originally hauled with my dad's 72). having the cab lamps installed will bring back a taste of my childhood, especially with the trailer hitched up. i am 29 years old now and 26 of those years my dad has had suburbans. that and dodge aries wagons.....we had an 81 (last new car my parents bought) and 86 k wagon and the 72 and 84 burb from 1990-91. 2 car and 2 truck wagons. i still have the 86 aries wagon (it was my first car) and it is slowly being restored and stealth modified (shelby daytona suspension and spirit r/t big 4 wheel disc brakes as well as a plethora of aftermarket goodies to tighten things up). you could say these old haulers are in my blood! actually, i just took the 97 sable wagon from parents which they replaced with an 01 taurus wagon. the sable just became my current daily driver. 197,00 miles and still going strong. i'm crazy, but i love my wagons!! |

more info on the lights....they are those 8 inch long yankee brand chrome teardrop lights that were very prevalent back in the day.

Re: need template for cab lights for new burb
hello budder71....
i got the fax and i will try and get the instructions posted one of these days. my dad has a printer with a scanner built in. the plans show what looks like a late 50's gm pickup cab, but you can tell they are the 8" yankee lamps. the middle 3 are spaced 6" apart from each other but the big variation is one setup puts the outer 2 at 25" from centerline with the back end tipped in 2-3/4 inches and the other setup calls for 35 inches from centerline and only a 2-9/16's tip in. i am guessing since the 67-72 has a wider cab like the modern trucks it will use the wider spread plan. i also don't recall my dad's truck having the side lamps really cocked, only slightly. i will know better after i climb up on the truck, take some measurements and look at multiple angles with the lamps mocked up. if only i'd made a template back in 1995 when we found my dad's 72 burb in the junkyard 5 minutes from his house. it must have been fate because he sold it to a guy a 1/2 hour away over in new hampshire and there were/ still are several larger junkyards over that way. |

Re: need template for cab lights for new burb
i might still have to get some measurements from a 67-72 truck with the yankee lights to make sure i have the right measurements. others please chime in.
