Best way to clean?

What is the best way to clean heads and the valley up a little.While the motor is still in the truck.I've noticed since I have taken the intake and valve covers off, that it could use a little cleaning.And how would I get the fluids back out after using them to clean it up.Thanks

I would not disturb anything, uless you have big chunks, little pieces of carbon can find there way into all the wrong spots, ie oil passages..

Pick out the bigger pieces and then go to the part store and get an additive for the oil that cleans the engine. Marvel Mystery Oil comes to mind or maybe Seafoam can be added to the oil. Others will chime in with they use and works good for them. Oh yeah, while you're at the parts store get oil and a filter too.

So would it be ok to clean out the valley at least?And then get something to flush out the engine?

Well I wouldn't use parts cleaner or carb cleaner or anything like that but I have scraped the gunk and used paper towels (blue ones-they don't shred) to clean it out and then used an additive for the rest. Just remember to change the oil afterward.

Yeah I forgot about the shop vac. I actually used it last time I did this very thing.
