2 4amp fuses?
I've seen it here a couple of times, about the 2 4amp fuses that need to be good for the amp gauge to work. I looked for the one on the passenger side first. when I located it and touched it, it disintegrated. Could that be why the guage doesn't work? DUH. Where can I get replacement? Anybody who can tell me the route of the wires? I will obviously have to replace a lot of wire, too.

you can use a long normal one til you can find short one out of a parts vehicle fuse panel(older than 74 or so)

Randy, just use any fuse holder aand a low amp fuse?

Any fuse holder will work. And use 4 amp fuses, local parts house will have the fuses.

I hate to post this but I don't have a clue to what 4amp fuse you all are talking about. Please fill me in on this, because I have no fuses next to my battery, rad, are any place that I know of on the passenger side of my truck.
What does it have to do with the amp gauge also. If you have a shop manual with a wiring diagram, you will notice that there are two fuses that are inline going to the alternator junction and one to the positive battery junction. These fuses are inline to the wires that feed to the ammeter, on for each side. The difference in ampres is measured to determine if there is sufficient ampres to charge the battery, or if consumption is greater than production. It is important that both wires be in good shape (no bad splices or crappy solder) in order to have an accurate reading for the ammeter.
A voltmeter will provide you better information with much less finicky wiring requirements. ------------------ '68 C-10 LWB, '98 Z-71 350 w/accessories (Serpentine), Edelbrock Performer, Edelbrock 1405 (600cfm) carb, GM HEI, CompCam Extreme 4x4 roller cam, Thorley Headers, Carter Electric Fuel Pump, Vintage Air, 700r4, 3.73, disc brakes and power steering upgrades.
