Whats the GCWR of a 1 ton truck??

I am debating if a crewcab one ton 4x4 with 454 tbi (single rear wheel and / or dually) would make a decent tow vehicle. Specifically, I am only interested in the 1987 to 1991 years. Just something inexpensive to take the family out on a few camping trips a year.

Does anybody know what the gcwr and gvwr is on a truck like this? I don't have the truck in front of me or near me to check the door/glove box.

A local guy has a package deal with 10k 5th wheel and a 1989/90 truck with the above specs (single rear wheel). Is this under the GCWR?

What do you guys think about the set up???

im not too sure, the sticker is missing off of mine, however i can tell you that they are work horses for sure, my 1986 c30 has 408,xxx miles on it still going strong and another year of california smog with no problems..we used to pull 2 cars in a 48' pace american goose neck from arizona to memphis tn with out issues...after 23 years still going strong, "like a rock"... hands down the best truck ive ever had...

Ya, I have heard of countless stories of these things moving houses... I just wanted to see if anybody had any hard numbers regarding GCWR / GVWR.

I always enjoy hearing stories of what people used to tow with these trucks.

I've heard of many duallys having a GVWR of 10,000lbs. Don't know what cab they had though.

dieseldr4 thank you. That is what I was looking for. It sounds like this truck is a single rear wheel and yours is too, so thank you.

Re: Whats the GCWR of a 1 ton truck??

GVWR and GCWR are not the same thing. My dually pickups have all been 10,000 GVWR trucks. With proper equipment they were rated for 15,000 GCWR trailering.

Tailgate tag on my 1988 V30, and my past 1977 K30.

A properly equipped 1988 R30 Dually Crewcab was listed at 19,000lbs GCWR.
