To Roll (pan) or not to Roll (pan). I have some questions

I'm waiting to order 2" shackles and work with removing some rear leafs on my 72" GMC LWB. My girlfriend offered to buy me either a new rear bumper or a roll pan. She shouldn't have given me the option. lol. Now i'm tossed between which way to go. I like the way a roll pan looks, but i've only seen them on slammed or bagged trucks. Mine has a rake currently while i'm waiting lower the back between 4 and 6". I've seen a couple lowered trucks with aftermarket chrome bumpers on them, i think they look good too. Here's a pic of my diamond plate bumper. Any ideas or opinions?
I haven't seen any louvered roll pans in any pics. I thought it'd look cool.

another thing is box or no box for license plate? I found a price difference of almost 75 bucks between the two. I don't see anything wrong with mounting a plate somewhere else, any pics of that?

In my opinion, roll pans look good on lowered fleetsides, but only if they're welded in (again just my opinion). The smooth chrome factory bumpers look good too though! I think on your truck with the suede paint, a rollpan would look nice.

I have done some searches and read through quite a few "roll pan" threads. Hardest thing seems to find any pics of a c20 or even just something close to my 72' c20 long bed.
I have a picture in my head of how it would look with the louvered pan on it, but i'm also curious about maybe getting a "sport" bumper on the back.

Not sure if it matters to your or not but most roll pans cover up the lower mounting bolt for the tailgate hinge, so it makes it really hard to remove the tailgate, if you needed to.

My vote for your ride, roll pan, louvers and license plate box. My .02 worth.

Chevy Mike.... i too am swaying towards the louvered pan with license box. Without the box would give it a great smooth look, but having a plate anywhere would kind of ruin it in my opinion. The box looks like it'd kind of center thing out. I assume all pans must be drilled for plate lights?

Haven't seen any pics yet still on something similar to mine, but i have a week or two to make the final decision.
Mark-K parts has a 6 row louvered with plate box for under 160 shipped. Best deal i've seen so far.

I was going threw the same prob and I went with the roll pan bc it is cheaper and it looks so clean on the longbed. Just installed mine last Friday. I got it in after 30 min of welding and bending with 15 min of bondo. Rolled on some rustoleum to match the rest of the truck and vua la! Hope you like!

no i dont have a picture of one but us olderschool guys put rollpan then had 3" chrome pushbars// you need to make custom mounts out of 1/4"plate to mount them

Looks great on there. I can see the louvered one looking great as well. I don't have a welder at home, but the place i'll order from says you can also bolt it on. For a temp fix i'll just bolt it up, then weld and mold it in later.

what about using the original bumper mounts and drilling two vertical holes at each end of the pan and mounting them through the pan? or is that what you're talking about?

Bumper. Not a fan of roll pans on these trucks. I had one on my 94 model welded in and really lked it but that is really the only body style I like them on

nno holes in the pan the way i do it is a dropped down wraped up and around the contour of the pan with the pushbar a bit lower than the lower edge of tailgat and as wide as the frame rails sort of a cory of the old lakes era stuff

I posted a similar question just a little bit ago. Here is the link below. I was set on the roll pan in the beginning, even purchased one, but now agree that on my truck a chrome rear will tie all the chrome trim together. So now I am gonna go with the chrome bumper.

With that said, on your truck I think a roll pan will look sweet. Especially if you are going to slam it. I think roll pans on a slammed truck is a good look. If you are going to keep your paint scheme, I would def go with the roll pan. I am not a fan of louvers...tailgate, roll pan, hood, etc., so I would personally go with a smooth roll pan or one with a recessed license plate box. Depends on what look you like.

I still have my roll pan in the box if you are interested. It has the recessed box and lights for the plates.

Good luck and I know how frustrating it is to being stuck in the middle. lol.

I am a rollpan type of guy, but I think your truck would look *****en with a nice chrome bumper, especially with those fat whitewalls and whatnot.

The only thing now keeping me on the fence between roll pan and sport bumper is the wide whites... My fear of a roll pan looking too new for the vehicle..... Paid $90 for it...so really just wanna get my money back out of it so I can get my chrome bumper. Unfortunately, I need the whole bumper kit including brackets, license box bracket, etc so it is gonna be more expensive than I originally thought. Never as cheap as planned. lol.

I usually see them go for $90-150 depending on style (Louvers, smooth, etc) and company. Then damn shipping.
