Gear oil

What weight / type gear oil should I run in my new axles?

14bff rear with factory eaton gov-lock?

D60 open front?

I always use 80W90 in my axles, manual tranny and transfer case.

I'll let some one who knows advise if the gov-lock needs an additive - I don't believe it does, but someone will know for sure.

Interesting because when i did the Front 60 and rear sterling 10.5 in my superduty the manual called for 70w90 in front and 70w140 in the rear, or something to that effect.

I remember I didnt have to use the slip additive in rear due to the open diff. but it called for so many ounces of something if it had a posi.

I run synthetic 75W-90, D44 front and Eaton rear. Always thought 140 was only required in trucks larger than pickups...

In my old chevys I run 80-90 throughout

In my dodge I run 80-90 in the front and t-case with a healthy dose of Lucas the rear has 85-140 lucas extreme service lube

Additive should be use when you have a Posi or limited slip w/clutches
I use to run Dana Powr-Lok and they required the 4oz shot of additive, I love the smell! makes me think of metal shop and my testosterone levels rise hahahaaa

Synthetic for cold country pumpability and lower wear and tear on the bearing and gear teeth mating surfaces.
