Bed Mounting Pad thickness?...and other question.
Hey guys,
I am getting ready to re-mount the bed on my '71 swb. the original bed mounting pads were missing. I have access to lots of different sizes and thicknesses of belted rubber. I was just wondering what thickness the original pads were. Can somebody tell me? I never did get an answer on the distance from the frame rail tips to the back of the license plate mount on the styled rear bumper. Can anybody help with that? |

I've removed and reinstalled a ton of beds at work and at home and i've never heard of such a thing as bed mounting pads. Is this something your adding. Also wouldnt you have to shim the rest of the body to match the extra thickness of the pads?

Re: Bed Mounting Pad thickness?...and other question.
Well, I guess I'll ask the next question. Is there a difference between wood bed floors and steel as far as mounting pads are concerned?
I'm just going by what I've seen for sale in the catalogs. It does seem like my body lines are lining up well without any at this time. But it would also seem like there should be something in there to avoid metal to metal contact for flex puposes. |

My steel floor did not have any pads. I think the pads were for wood floors.

I never have used a bed pad but I bet a hunk of innertube would fit the bill...

Re: Bed Mounting Pad thickness?...and other question.
When I removed my wood floor bed, it did not have any pads. I keep hearing about these but have not actually seen them on a truck yet.

Re: Bed Mounting Pad thickness?...and other question.
Thanks for the input guys.
I found some thin (1/8"), adhesive backed nylon (actually HDPE) that I cut and drilled to put in there. It worked really well and should insulate any contact really well. |
