Re: Fleetside Wooden Floor

It was a little used option. i saw an all original 77 or 78 on eBay when i bought my truck a few months ago that had a wooden bed i had not seen one in years. it was an option all the way up to 79 or so.

Re: Fleetside Wooden Floor

Fleetsides were offered with them, but only the long bed versions. Both stepsides boxes had them.

What was the reason for the wood beds?
It doesn't seem like there's any point in using wood when metal was just as cheap then.

That's a cool find anyway.

Re: Fleetside Wooden Floor

My uncle ordered a 77 with the wood bed for my grandfather back then. They were in the video game/jukebox/pool table business in South Dakota. They knew that moving machines in and out of pickup beds took all the paint off them (rusting before long) and eventually they got as wavey as the north Pacific. The wood beds held up much better and could be more easily fixed if there was a problem. It's the same reason cargo containers and big box trucks still have wood floors...

Re: Fleetside Wooden Floor

My mom had a '76 3/4 ton with a wood bed. She sold it about 15 years ago.
