Peep mirrors
i currently do not have mirrors on my '70 and have been looking at my lmc truck magazine and found these peep mirrors. I was wondering if anyone has pictures of these mirrors on their truck and what they think of them. I also have thought about using motorcycle mirrors. I am open to any suggestions and would like something small but still functional. I have included a picture of the mirrors and a picture of my truck.

after searching this i dont think i will get the peep mirrors, everything i read said that they are not functional. does anyone have motorcycle mirrors and if so can you post pictures and tell how you installed them

Mine were a bit of a challenge to get used to, but I've been using them for over 5 years on a dd. Motorcycle mirrors won't be any better because they're virtually the same size.

If the quality is good, those reproduction mirrors mounted on the door in the correct spot would be functional. Might also look at a set off of a chevyII or a Nova, chevelle depending if you want a square or a round mirror.

Peep mirrors provide a "look" whereas the other truck mirrors are more functional. But, after you get used to them, you'll find their limitations. With a pair of them plus your inside rearview mirror, you should be okay.
How do you intend to use your truck? Let that usage be your guide.

i have peeps now, with a small rear windo being a dd i hate them, gonna go with the round car mirrors, hopefully with some curved glass

I have one on my 63 Bel Air and it's fine for keeping an eye on what's behind you when used with the rear view mirror. However I don't pull a trailer with it, I turn around and physically look out the back glass while I back up and look over my shoulder when I change lanes. This car also has a wide expanse of glass all around, on a truck, I'd probably want something a little bigger.

Not to take this post in another direction, but I have a pair of the square reproduction mirrors and they vibrate like crazy from the wind, even at very low speeds. Almost makes me nauseous looking through them. Any suggestions for reducing the vibration? I've tried tightening the bolts on the back, but no improvement.
I was going to try the universal ones, but ZombieWeinerDog just talked me out of them. |

there so little blind spots on these trucks that the peep mirror is good enough... granted the passenger side is worthless but all I have to do is turn my head a little farther

I have factory type door mirrors on my ''69.
I here to tell ya, I spend a lot of time looking over my shoulders before I make a lane change. I don't want to even think about "peeps" alone. I have, however, thought about adding a set of peep mirrors to supplement what I already have; for whatever it's worth.

I ran without side mirrors when first painted and didn't have a problem.... except with PD. We have to have at least one side mirror in California.

I had the same mirrors as blab on my 72 and they vibrated like carzy too. These are the ones I plan to go with on the burb.

The sport mirrors (I always called them car mirrors) are about worthless as it is.Not that I don`t run them on a little 2wd.But peeps are worthless as a pimple.Car (or sport) mirrors look great and should be the minimum.A vehicle looks naked,especially a truck.w/o mirrors IMO.

I am surprised no one has questioned the factory positioning of these mirrors. I am new to truck world with my 1972 Cheyenne short bed step side but poor rear visibility hit me the moment I drove away with my new truck!
To my mind, the factory position on side mirrors defeats all driving safety and sensibility. The far rearward position forces the driver to turn almost 90 degrees and take their eyes completely off the road in front to look at the little sport mirrors. I expect one gets used to them, but I am looking for an attractive, yet functional alternative. It would look ridiculous but old school road racers mounted mirrors on front fenders where they were very functional and the driver could keep his focus. The "dumbo" mirrors work simply because of their size but I don't feel do a sleek hot rod truck any beauty favors. I do like the 67-68? chrome "peep-like" round mirrors, but the large triangulated base is a bit brutish when going for a smoother look. I too would like to see/hear of other approaches. With all the phenomenal fabrication and ingenious solutions I've seen here I'm surprised this area (mirrors) seems restricted to factory or peeps. If I come up with a solution I'll post. thx |

im gonna get some peeps for mine, but just because i have to- when I tried to register the truck this past summer they failed me for no mirrors and no horn- so these will be my temporary (maybe permanent) fix...

I too was looking at the peep mirrors but after some research I've decided not to, as they don't seem as practical and I use my truck as a dd. I think i will just get some small side mounted mirrors like I have now, except chrome, not painted white.
