Question Air bag ?

when i get around to bagging my burb, i plan on running nitrogen most of the time, and a compressor for those special occasions where i might run out of nitro. im am looking to go with a 600 psi bag so that i can turn my pressure up to about 450-550 psi when i might want to play with the switches. so here is the question: what is the better 600 psi bag to use for my burb, the $160 slam specialties Xs7's or the $80 Airlift Dominators? oh and another question: will dot line hold that kind of pressure(600 psi) or will i have to go to hydraulic line witch i would prefer to use anyways?

p.s. thanks in advance

Re: Air bag ?

why in the name of all that is good would anyone want to run 450-550 psi in an air bag?

that's just plain silly

Re: Air bag ?

i dont know....maybe to be able to make it hop and have some real fun if i want to lol. but that will only be sometimes, the rest of the time it will be run around 180-200 psi.

i think 500 psi would be a little exessive to make it hop... you might flip it slap over on the roof hahaha.. but 500 psi will probably make you get a couple of feet of air and IMO i wouldnt want a 40 year old truck jumping up and down that high, well iwouldnt want anything jumping up and down that high haha.

but if your looking to hop this thing that high you probably want to look into hydralics.. yes, yes i know it can be done on air, but i wouldnt want to run that much pressure.. like shane said it is just silly. no matter what psi your parts are rated for they are going blow up sonner or later running that kind of pressure

and i dont even know if you can get an air valve that can handle 500+ psi, i dont think ihave heard of one that can handle more than 300.

and if you try pushing more pressure through a valve that isnt rated for it, the vavle will stick shut and not let the pressue through.. my friend put 280 psi through his valves that were rated at like 200 i believe.. his car went up with the 280 psi but when he tryed to dump it the dump valve stuck and it wouldnt let the air out because it was too much pressure.. so he had to get to the air line and cut it with a knife to let the air out.. then put a new compression fitting on and put the line back together.

im a little long winded today

Re: Air bag ?

A bit more research in air suspension systems and their design may be in order here.

Re: Air bag ?

I have seen full size chevs in my time hit a foot on a single throw of a switch with 250psi if you plan on building a nice vehicle 500psi will destroy it, I wouldn't run any thing over 200 IMO

Re: Air bag ?

yah i plan on building a nice vehicle. hahaha ok 500 psi is way to much pressure. i only want to get maybe a foot of air under the front anyways (just to say i can), so than i will stick to around 250-300 psi for playing and an He7 400 psi bag then. and run it around 180-200 psi for everything else when not playing. so what is a better candidate for the bag, the doms, or the slams? and what about air line, dot, or hydraulic?

Re: Air bag ?

Honestly I'm not sure how long any of it will last if you use it to hop with....surely you don't expect that thing to stay together hopping it off the ground...I can only imagine that body panels would flex/rub and maybe a lil glass crack as well! If i'm not mistaken, the lowriders that hop are designed to do so...is that what you want? If so...go that route, otherwise i'd say just bag it and don't expect a hop....not only that but unless you put a ton of weight in the back, good luck tossin up the front of that beast!

Re: Air bag ?

ok then no hopping at all lol. just fast bags, 200 psi is enough and plenty fast with 1/2" dot lines and valves. now back to the bags, the He7 slams, or the Doms?

Re: Air bag ?

1/2 lines/valves is plenty for most-thats what i have...i plan to run a 125 pressure switch when i get to that point. @ about 100psi int the tank the front isn't that fast because of weight but the back bucks like a damn bull!

yah i figure that 1/2" lines and valves it will be plenty fast enough with 200 psi as well.

Re: Air bag ?

While clowning and hopping isn't for me, lets at least be open minded about it.

We are starting to sound like those that condemn air suspension all together.

Let him dream of playing how every he wants. When things start breaking (and they will) it won't take long for reality to set in.

In the meantime here's one of my favorite pics of a truck getting some nice air.

Re: Air bag ?

nice and hopping dont go together in the same sentence. You can go ahead and plan on regapping the whole truck after your done but hey, I am with Ken on this one.... to each their own.

Re: Air bag ?

used nitrogen and hydraulic hose on mine, 0 and i mean 0 issues at 400 psi. it is what it is, it will destroy the truck at these pressures, i run it at 125 all day long, if i want to play, turn the little knob and rock it, beautiful thing about nitrogen, if you want to crazy crazy fill the tank with helium. pricey but really fun.

Re: Air bag ?

^^thats kind of what i was thinking about doing, but it kind of seems like everybody gets flamed for wanting to do something different with their old truck lol. anyways, what kind of bags are you running with that setup, and what size hydraulic line? just curious.

Re: Air bag ?

it matters who and how you talk to people on forums, good folks on this forum helped me out a bunch. i used 3/8 hydraulic hose with jic fittings on everything. if i were to do it again i would build my system with parker push lock rubber hose, not hard line dot stuff. the rubber parker push lock stuff is awesome. rated at 350 psi with a 4 time safety factor. all you have to do is push the stuff on to the barbs, no clamps. no push lock fittings, just sounds simple, and the stuff is cheap and flexible.

i am running slam re7 bags front and rear.

ohh, forgot, that is the parker hose i am talking about that is running from the regulator to the bulk head fiiting in the bed. not hydraulic hose.

Re: Air bag ?

Texastrendz, Did you us parker hose, as well as the parker fitting? And you simple push it all together? Sounds to good to be true.

Project 67 Sub~ I say 450 psi is the magic number. You might want to box the entire frame though!

Re: Air bag ?

yea, it is all parker, the hydraulic shop in houston i go to carriers parker for the main line up, the push lock rubber hose is the way to go. the only thing you may have a problem with is that no 90's are available. what you have to do is go from jic to the barb in a 90, hufco hydraulic in houston helpd me with the fittings. i carrier a short piece in my truck just in case i have a issue, i tied all my stuff up real nice with rubber clamps so i should not have an issue.

Agreed, though I'd hate for our open minds to be misinterpreted as a condonation of endangering others on public roads.
